Technical Lead Manager, Synthetic Data

Posted on 15 October 2026New

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Wayve’s Simulation team as Technical Lead Manager for Synthetic Data, working hybrid from London. • Lead a high-performing team of ML engineers and applied scientists turning GAIA world models into a production engine for training-grade data. • Reduce Wayve’s dependency on expensive, time-consuming on-road data collection. • Restage real driving onto camera rigs that don’t exist yet and rewrite ego motion to create new scenarios. • Help answer whether driving models can be trained and validated before a vehicle fleet or local data exists. • Balance hands-on technical leadership with people management in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring 5+ years in ML engineering or applied research with a track record of training and shipping neural networks. • Bring 4+ years of people management experience, including direct reports and cross-functional project ownership. • Show deep knowledge of generative modelling such as diffusion, flow matching, autoregressive models or VAEs for video. • Bring hands-on experience with video generation, novel-view synthesis, neural rendering or controllable generation. • Understand cameras and 3D geometry, including multi-camera rigs, intrinsics/extrinsics, warps and reprojection. • Show evidence of taking generated or simulated data into a downstream model and measuring its impact. • Run generation or training reliably at real scale with multi-GPU jobs and workflow orchestration. • Write strong Python and PyTorch code and build research-grade production tools. • Communicate clearly and enjoy coaching and mentoring others. • Keep clarity and momentum for your team through ambiguity.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring experience with inference optimisation such as distillation, few-step sampling or KV caching. • Show experience in autonomous driving, robotics or another embodied AI domain. • Bring experience building self-serve ML workflows used by other teams. • Show experience hiring and structuring teams across multiple locations. • Bring experience working to OEM programme timelines or safety-case requirements.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for post-training and conditioning world models for rig transfer, pose transfer and controllability. • Own the synthetic data loop end to end, from checkpoint and config through GPU inference to training-ready artefacts. • Lead hands-on on key components, codebases and experiments when it matters. • Drive inference optimisation, valid-generation rate and self-serve workflows for model developers. • Challenge assumptions about where synthetic data pays off and champion bold ideas. • Drive quarterly planning and execution in a high-ambiguity environment. • Align with world-model researchers, platform engineers, driving-model owners and evaluation teams. • Hire top talent, design operating models and build an inclusive team culture. • Coach team members through 1:1s, reviews and tailored growth plans. • Guide the team through evolving research priorities while maintaining stability and trust.

🚀 Why Join - Our Take

Wayve is one of the most exciting AI companies in the UK right now. They are tackling one of the hardest problems in technology, teaching machines to drive, and they are doing it with an approach that the rest of the industry is now converging towards. Backed by SoftBank, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis, Wayve has raised $2.8 billion in total funding and reached a valuation of $8.6 billion. With over 1,000 employees across London, Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Leonberg, Herzliya, and Tokyo, Wayve is scaling fast while keeping its London HQ at the centre. What stands out on Glassdoor (4.4/5 from 112+ reviews) is how consistently employees praise the culture, the calibre of colleagues, and the quality of the technical work. People describe it as some of the most interesting work of their careers. Wayve also offers an on-site chef, private healthcare, competitive pay with equity, and a genuine learning environment where you work alongside world-class ML researchers and engineers. That said, some reviews flag that the pace can be intense and that working across global time zones can stretch working hours. If you are an engineer, researcher, or operator who wants to work on genuinely frontier technology with real-world impact, and you thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments, Wayve is a rare opportunity.

😃 What Wayve offers

• Earn a salary benchmarked against the market every year. • Receive meaningful equity in Wayve’s long-term success. • Get relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable. • Work hybrid with core hours and hands-on time in vehicle workshops and labs. • Use a learning and development budget for training and conferences. • Receive health and dental insurance, a pension and access to therapists. • Enjoy enhanced maternity and paternity leave, wellbeing partnerships and team socials.

💖 What makes Wayve unique

Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving, using an end-to-end approach where vehicles learn directly from real-world experience instead of hand-coded rules or pre-mapped environments. Its mapless, hardware-agnostic AI Driver integrates with global OEM partners and supports automation from L2+ through to L4. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, Wayve also has hubs in Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver and Leonberg.
