Python Software Engineer

• Join Abound’s mortgage engineering team as a Python Software Engineer, working hybrid from London 3 days a week. • Build high-quality, reliable backend systems for Abound’s expanding mortgage products. • Own features end to end, from shaping requirements through launch and iteration. • Work with Python, Django, GraphQL, Pydantic, Postgres and Google Cloud. • Collaborate with frontend, internal teams and external engineering partners. • Grow quickly towards a senior-level role in a high-ownership team.

• Bring strong hands-on experience building backend systems in Python. • Show practical experience with Django. • Design or consume RESTful APIs, and design GraphQL APIs for frontend applications. • Work with Postgres and relational data models. • Know Pydantic, typed Python or other modern Python practices. • Bring some cloud experience, ideally Google Cloud, or a strong desire to learn. • Show a good eye for clean architecture, API design, performance and reliability. • Take a product-minded approach with a strong sense of ownership. • Turn ambiguous problems into clear, shippable solutions.

• Bring experience with PDF generation or document rendering workflows. • Show experience in early-stage or fast-moving product teams. • Know observability, monitoring, alerting and infrastructure operations. • Take a data-driven approach to decision-making. • Stay open to how AI will change the way products are built and used.

• Build and ship backend features with Python, Django, REST, GraphQL, Pydantic, Postgres and Google Cloud. • Own work from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and iteration. • Deliver features with cross-team dependencies alongside internal teams and external partners. • Work with frontend engineers to shape great user-facing and internal experiences. • Contribute to backend architecture, API design, data modelling, performance and security. • Raise the standard of your own work and your teammates’ through thoughtful code reviews.
