Data Engineer

• Join Abound’s Platform team as a Data Engineer, working hybrid from London 3 days a week. • Mature and optimise the Data Lake that powers data-driven decisions across the business. • Act as a key bridge between the Platform and Data Science teams. • Migrate production workloads such as model calibration and reporting into the Data Lake. • Improve query performance and data freshness while reducing AWS costs. • Work as a high-impact individual contributor with real autonomy.

• Bring a strong software engineering foundation, applying SOLID principles to data systems. • Show proven experience building and maintaining CDC pipelines, ideally with AWS DMS. • Bring hands-on expertise with Spark and AWS Glue. • Show experience turning RDS workloads into scalable data pipelines. • Write SQL at a high level, especially in transactional RDS environments. • Bring experience implementing governance and best practices across data platforms. • Own systems end to end and work across teams with technical stakeholders.

• Bring experience with Apache Iceberg and Athena. • Show experience with AWS Lambda and ECS Fargate. • Bring experience supporting data science or ML model workloads. • Show experience in fintech or consumer lending. • Bring experience with observability tools such as Amazon Managed Prometheus.

• Own and evolve the Data Lake infrastructure and ETL pipelines from day one. • Migrate model calibration, ad-hoc analytics and reporting workloads into the Data Lake. • Partner with Data Science to enable faster, more efficient data use. • Redesign data structures and clustering strategies for better performance and freshness. • Optimise infrastructure to cut AWS costs while staying reliable and scalable. • Build robust, production-grade data systems with modern AWS tooling.
