About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Wayve’s Measurement team within AI Evaluation as a Staff Tech Lead Manager, working hybrid from London. • Lead a London-based team of Senior Machine Learning Engineers while staying deeply involved in technical direction. • Build offline scene-understanding models that measure driving performance after on-road runs and in simulation. • Adapt on-vehicle and foundation-model technology to use the extra compute, capacity and temporal context available offline. • Shorten the loop between driving-model changes and reliable evaluation evidence. • Align roadmaps with teams across the UK and US.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring 8+ years in ML engineering, including hands-on computer vision with camera or lidar data. • Show a record of shipping production ML systems. • Bring 2+ years managing or tech-leading senior engineers. • Combine people leadership with technical leadership. • Bring staff-level depth in transformers, multimodal systems, foundation models and large-scale training. • Work proficiently in Python and PyTorch or a similar framework, with strong judgement on production-grade ML. • Align roadmaps across teams and geographies and communicate technical strategy to senior stakeholders.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring experience with 3D scene understanding. • Show experience building offline models. • Bring experience with simulation or counterfactual evaluation. • Show experience leading distributed teams across locations.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Senior Machine Learning Engineers in London. • Set the architecture for robust, scalable offline scene-understanding and measurement models. • Build offline models that predict and explain counterfactual driving outcomes. • Develop scene-understanding systems that assess coverage, mine rare events and measure driving behaviour. • Design rig-agnostic architectures using transformer, multimodal and foundation-model technology. • Turn ambiguous business goals into sprint, quarterly, annual and multi-year technical roadmaps. • Review designs and code so models are reliable enough for customer-facing deliverables. • Align roadmaps across on-vehicle modelling, foundation models, Evaluation, Simulation and platform teams. • Spot capability gaps ahead of demand and build the case to address them.
