About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Wayve’s Portal team as a Senior Software Engineer, Data, working hybrid from London. • Build the Data Transfer Hub, mission-critical infrastructure that moves petabytes of sensor data per day from global partners. • Work with partners such as Uber, Stellantis and Nissan to build the data foundations behind AI model training at scale. • Join a small, high-autonomy team on the cloud platform that connects Wayve to the outside world. • Shape technical design with pragmatic trade-offs across reliability, throughput, cost and partner constraints. • Take ownership of production systems and solve real customer and partner problems.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring experience building and operating large-scale data transfer, ingestion or processing pipelines, ideally at petabyte scale. • Show strong software engineering skills and experience maintaining production systems. • Work proficiently in Python and Terraform. • Use workflow orchestration such as Flyte, Airflow or Prefect to run parallelised jobs. • Build reliable, observable data systems with retries, backfills, integrity checks, state tracking and alerting. • Bring strong cloud skills, ideally Azure, including blob storage, large-scale file movement, networking or cloud-to-cloud transfers. • Apply a product mindset that focuses on customer needs rather than simply implementing requirements. • Handle evolving requirements, take ownership of outcomes and communicate clearly. • Join an out-of-hours on-call and support rotation once the service is established.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring experience working with external data partners or building customer-facing technical integrations. • Show a background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, geospatial data, video processing or another data-intensive domain. • Use Kafka or other event-driven systems for transfer observability, or build dashboards for transfer job status. • Bring multi-cloud experience across Azure, AWS and/or GCP. • Show experience improving the cost efficiency, throughput or reliability of large-scale cloud data systems.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Build and operate large-scale pipelines that transfer video, LiDAR and other sensor data from global partners. • Implement and evolve a hub-and-spoke model for sharing sensor data at up to petabyte-per-day scale. • Build parallelised transfer pipelines using Flyte, Kafka and Azure storage infrastructure. • Write pipeline logic in Python and manage infrastructure as code with Terraform. • Build retry strategies, backfills, integrity checks, lifecycle tracking, dashboards and alerting. • Develop cloud-to-cloud networking and large-scale file-transfer solutions, with Azure as the primary platform. • Improve throughput, reliability and cost efficiency across different partner environments. • Work with product, commercial and partner-facing teams to understand constraints. • Take part in the out-of-hours on-call and support rotation.

🚀 Why Join - Our Take

Wayve is one of the most exciting AI companies in the UK right now. They are tackling one of the hardest problems in technology, teaching machines to drive, and they are doing it with an approach that the rest of the industry is now converging towards. Backed by SoftBank, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis, Wayve has raised $2.8 billion in total funding and reached a valuation of $8.6 billion. With over 1,000 employees across London, Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Leonberg, Herzliya, and Tokyo, Wayve is scaling fast while keeping its London HQ at the centre. What stands out on Glassdoor (4.4/5 from 112+ reviews) is how consistently employees praise the culture, the calibre of colleagues, and the quality of the technical work. People describe it as some of the most interesting work of their careers. Wayve also offers an on-site chef, private healthcare, competitive pay with equity, and a genuine learning environment where you work alongside world-class ML researchers and engineers. That said, some reviews flag that the pace can be intense and that working across global time zones can stretch working hours. If you are an engineer, researcher, or operator who wants to work on genuinely frontier technology with real-world impact, and you thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments, Wayve is a rare opportunity.
