• Join Wayve’s Simulation team as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer working on Gaia, working hybrid from London.
• Work on Gaia, Wayve’s world model trained on large-scale driving video to predict future frames.
• Help Gaia act as a simulator that generates synthetic scenarios and runs in closed loop with the driving model.
• Lead post-training and push autoregressive generation towards longer, more stable rollouts.
• Influence model architecture and training-strategy decisions rather than just applying existing models.
• Mentor the team and set technical direction across research and engineering.
📋 Job Requirements
• Bring hands-on experience post-training or fine-tuning large-scale language, video or foundation models.
• Show experience with world models, autoregressive generation and long-horizon generation.
• Bring experience with diffusion or flow models and a solid understanding of 3D vision.
• Understand model architecture deeply enough to shape architectural and training decisions.
• Write strong PyTorch code with a focus on debugging, performance and reliability.
• Bring 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
🌟 Nice-to-have
• Bring experience with inference optimisation or deploying large models under latency and compute constraints.
• Show experience improving data and training pipelines across distributed training, efficiency and reliability.
• Bring proven technical leadership through tech lead ownership, mentoring or setting direction across an area.
• Hold an advanced degree in a relevant field.
🎯 Responsibilities
• Lead Gaia’s post-training and closed-loop pipeline through fine-tuning, alignment and targeted data curation.
• Own parts of large-scale training, from experimentation through productionised training runs.
• Push autoregressive generation towards longer, more stable rollouts and make the model deployment-ready.
• Contribute to architecture and training-strategy decisions across pre-training, post-training and applications.
• Translate product and evaluation needs into model improvements such as better long-horizon prediction and scenario quality.
• Partner with Research, Applications, Core Simulation Engineering and Cloud/Infrastructure teams.
• Mentor engineers, review work and raise the engineering and research quality bar.
Wayve is one of the most exciting AI companies in the UK right now. They are tackling one of the hardest problems in technology, teaching machines to drive, and they are doing it with an approach that the rest of the industry is now converging towards. Backed by SoftBank, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis, Wayve has raised $2.8 billion in total funding and reached a valuation of $8.6 billion. With over 1,000 employees across London, Silicon Valley, Vancouver, Leonberg, Herzliya, and Tokyo, Wayve is scaling fast while keeping its London HQ at the centre. What stands out on Glassdoor (4.4/5 from 112+ reviews) is how consistently employees praise the culture, the calibre of colleagues, and the quality of the technical work. People describe it as some of the most interesting work of their careers. Wayve also offers an on-site chef, private healthcare, competitive pay with equity, and a genuine learning environment where you work alongside world-class ML researchers and engineers. That said, some reviews flag that the pace can be intense and that working across global time zones can stretch working hours. If you are an engineer, researcher, or operator who wants to work on genuinely frontier technology with real-world impact, and you thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments, Wayve is a rare opportunity.
😃 What Wayve offers

💖 What makes Wayve unique
Wayve is building an AI platform for autonomous driving, using an end-to-end approach where vehicles learn directly from real-world experience instead of hand-coded rules or pre-mapped environments. Its mapless, hardware-agnostic AI Driver integrates with global OEM partners and supports automation from L2+ through to L4. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, Wayve also has hubs in Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver and Leonberg.
