📋 Job Requirements

• Bring strong experience working on the backend of a technology product. • Want to build a product you and the people you know use every day. • Bring a product mindset, caring about customer outcomes and making data-informed decisions. • Work comfortably in a team that deals with ambiguity. • Take an interest in distributed systems and writing resilient software. • Bring some experience with strongly-typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala. • Enjoy learning new things, since Monzo hires technically agnostic and asks for no formal qualifications or degree.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have worked with any of Monzo's stack, including Go, Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy Proxy, AWS, GCP, or React, though no prior knowledge is expected. • Have built systems in a regulated or financial services environment. • Have contributed to open source software, which Monzo does as much as possible. • Apply even if you do not tick every box, which Monzo explicitly encourages. • Use a preferred name to apply, as Monzo does not need full or birth names at application stage.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Collaborate with your squad to make a difference to customers. • Write application code in Go, supported by organised onboarding to get up to speed. • Work with Cassandra for persistent data storage and Kafka for asynchronous message queues. • Schedule and run services using Kubernetes and Docker, with Envoy Proxy handling RPC. • Build on AWS for production infrastructure and GCP for data infrastructure. • Work with React on public web apps and internal tools. • Support systems that connect to third parties through physical datacenters.
