About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join a small, high-impact team working at the intersection of People, Legal, Compliance, and Risk. • Own the end-to-end design and operation of Monzo's accountability and people governance frameworks globally. • Take an individual contributor role with meaningful scope, reporting to the People Governance & Accountability Lead alongside two other team members. • Own operational delivery across the people governance and accountability frameworks, improving how they work over time. • Turn complex regulatory requirements into practical, efficient, well-controlled processes that work at scale. • Help Monzo operate confidently across people-related regulation, accountability regimes, and governance requirements in multiple jurisdictions. • Work from London, Cardiff, or fully remote within the UK.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring strong experience in a regulated environment, ideally in governance, compliance, risk, or legal. • Bring hands-on experience of SMCR in a UK dual-regulated FCA/PRA firm, with familiarity with IAF/SEAR or other accountability regimes. • Translate regulatory or policy requirements into clear, practical processes, training, and guidance. • Plan and lead projects end to end, driving delivery and keeping work on track. • Work collaboratively and thoughtfully, bringing stakeholders together to solve problems well. • Communicate strongly, whether writing governance papers, improving processes, or talking through nuanced decisions. • Build relationships with senior stakeholders and present to senior forums. • Work independently and adapt to changing priorities, focusing quickly on higher-risk areas when needed. • Enjoy building and improving ways of working, spotting gaps and bringing structure. • Use data and judgement together, making pragmatic recommendations when there is no perfect answer. • Thrive in a fast-moving environment balancing control, pace, and practicality.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring direct experience with IAF/SEAR rather than only SMCR, given the multi-jurisdiction remit. • Have automated manual governance work or introduced new tooling to a control framework. • Have supported audit, assurance, or regulatory engagement with evidence and papers. • Have worked across People and Legal or Compliance rather than within a single function. • Use a preferred name to apply, as Monzo does not need full or birth names at application stage.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day delivery of the accountability regimes, SMCR and IAF/SEAR, keeping key processes, controls, timelines, and outputs to a high standard. • Run business-as-usual activities across fit and proper assessments, certification, accountability processes including applications and mapping, governance documentation, and regulatory reporting. • Coordinate day-to-day work across the team, keeping priorities clear and delivery on track. • Act as trusted subject matter expert on accountability and people governance, helping stakeholders navigate complexity and make risk-based decisions. • Build and evolve the broader people governance framework, covering people-related risk, controls, decision-making, and organisational change. • Identify and deliver improvements to processes, controls, and tooling, making frameworks more efficient, scalable, and easier to use. • Partner with People, Legal, Compliance, Risk & Controls, Company Secretariat, the Board, and the wider business to land decisions. • Support audit, assurance, and regulatory engagement with high-quality evidence, papers, reporting, and process management. • Use data and insight to spot themes, identify risks, prioritise improvements, and shape the operational roadmap. • Work with the People Governance & Accountability Lead on higher-risk issues, strategic changes, and the evolution of the global frameworks.
