Staff Software Engineer, Global KYC and Onboarding

• Join Wise’s Global KYC and Onboarding squad as a Staff Software Engineer (IC4), based in London. • Build verification systems that onboard around 500,000 new customers every month. • Shape architecture across the squad and lead work on a configuration-driven KYC platform. • Help turn a traditionally frustrating verification process into one that’s fast, intuitive and fair. • Use ML and AI where they genuinely improve decisioning, with safe fallbacks and clear observability. • Earn £111,000–£145,000 plus RSUs.

• Bring 10+ years of Java 8+ experience, with recent Spring framework experience. • Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases. • Show strong system design skills building distributed, high-throughput services. • Bring a track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers. • Understand security best practices and data protection principles. • Solve problems with strong attention to detail. • Explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services with Java, Spring Boot and cloud technologies. • Lead initiatives that improve verification automation, reliability and performance. • Turn business requirements into technical solutions with product managers. • Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for verification systems. • Build internal tools that help verification agents work efficiently. • Mentor junior engineers through guidance and code reviews. • Share knowledge and best practices across engineering.
