Staff Software Engineer - Global KYC and Onboarding

• Join the Global KYC and Onboarding squad as a Staff Software Engineer (IC4), shaping architecture across the squad's services and leading technical direction on the configuration-driven KYC platform. • Work at serious scale — in FY2025, Wise onboarded over 5.9 million new customers (~500k/month) and moved £145.2 billion across borders across 160+ countries and 40+ currencies. • Build verification systems that are core production infrastructure protecting customers, enabling growth, and staying reliable under constant regulatory, policy, and threat pattern changes. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

• Have 10+ years of Java 8+ knowledge with recent experience in the Spring framework. • Have experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases. • Bring strong system design skills with experience building distributed, high-throughput services. • Have a track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers. • Have a strong understanding of security best practices and data protection principles. • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Have experience with financial or KYC verification systems. • Bring experience building configuration-driven platforms that enable teams to expand and fine-tune in a config-change manner. • Have experience increasing automation using ML/AI with safe fallbacks and clear observability. • Bring experience refactoring monolithic systems into scalable microservice architectures. • Have experience building internal tooling that helps operations and verification agents work efficiently.

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud technologies. • Lead technical initiatives that improve verification systems, focusing on automation, reliability, and performance. • Collaborate with product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions. • Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and code reviews. • Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for verification systems. • Build internal tools that help verification agents work efficiently. • Contribute to engineering culture through knowledge sharing and best practices. • Shape architecture across the squad's services and raise the engineering bar through mentorship and cross-team influence.
