Credit - Senior Engineering Manager

• Build out Wise's first-ever credit offering — a fair and transparent international credit card programme for personal and business customers. • Lead the core credit team within the Spend squad as a Senior Engineering Manager, hiring teams, building roadmaps, and developing this greenfield initiative from the ground up. • Be responsible for building systems covering credit decisioning, tracking borrowed credit, accruing interest, repayment flows, and much more. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

• Have a strong background in software engineering with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems. • Have demonstrated 0-to-1 experience in your career. • Be an expert in delivering reliable and robust services in a production environment. • Be comfortable working on a complex domain and guiding a team through technical challenges. • Have experience working with distributed systems and be as comfortable discussing technical trade-offs as team direction. • Have a strong sense of ownership and the ability to think beyond technical implementation to understand business and customer impact. • Be comfortable working in an autonomous environment and can conceptualise and drive initiatives forward to completion. • Have experience working closely with product and stakeholders to define requirements and prioritise the most impactful work. • Be an empathetic leader with a track record of mentoring and coaching engineers at all levels. • Lead by example, inspiring the team to produce high-quality, maintainable code. • Communicate excellently, articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Have experience leading a team in payments, fintech, or another complex, high-stakes domain. • Bring prior experience working on a team with a global, distributed setup. • Have experience building systems that serve enterprise clients at scale. • Bring previous experience scaling teams and systems for global reach. • Have a strong foundation in distributed systems and cloud architecture. • Have some hands-on experience with frontend development.

• Be a key driver of the team's technical roadmap and the broader product roadmap, partnering with the dedicated product manager and teams across Spend and Account. • Build the systems that allow credit decisioning, tracking borrowed credit, accruing interest, repayment flows, and international credit card issuing. • Hire, lead, coach, and mentor a talented group of engineers who can bring the credit vision to market. • Help engineers grow, remove blockers, and enable execution at a velocity that balances time to market with the quality customers expect. • Set clear planning, release milestones, and realistic commitments. • Provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding the team on architectural design, code reviews, and best practices. • Ensure code quality, consistency, and maintainability through code reviews and best practices. • Participate in and drive product roadmapping and strategy sessions with product management. • Work closely with other Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, and Product to shape the team's and squad's technical roadmaps. • Help the team navigate complex priorities and make trade-offs to deliver solutions that reduce risk and unlock growth. • Act as a key representative of the team, collaborating with stakeholders across the company and leading projects from beginning to release.
