UX Researcher

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join as Synthesia's first full-time UX researcher, at the point where the company is moving from a single product to a multi-product platform. • Work directly with product, design, and engineering on the bets that will define what Synthesia looks like over the next few years, including a new real-time, agentic product where an entirely new modality is being figured out as it gets built. • Own research end-to-end as a Senior IC and shape how the function itself takes form. • Pick up work where appetite has already been validated: persona and jobs mapping shaped the first version of the newest product, and there is strong pull from PMs, designers, and leadership for more. • Shape some of the highest-stakes decisions of the next six months, including how the assistant experience should evolve, what drives adoption of the new product, and how users get activated in their earliest moments. • Work from the London office near Great Portland Street on a flexible, hybrid basis.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring significant experience as a UX or product researcher, ideally including time as the only researcher on a team. • Define your own priorities, negotiate what to work on, and translate fuzzy strategic questions into research that moves decisions. • Bring a strong qualitative toolkit across strategic and evaluative research, and build and run your own surveys when needed. • Stay fluent with data: comfortable reading it, comfortable pushing back when a number is being over-interpreted, and clear on when to reach for a method versus a conversation. • Navigate the delicate parts of B2B research, recruiting customers without stepping on Sales relationships and running studies with users who are also account contacts. • Hold your own with executives, forming views and bringing people along through clear thinking rather than volume of output. • Bring experience with, or a strong instinct for, research operations, especially participant recruiting and panel building. • Influence senior stakeholders comfortably and shape the direction of a team rather than only its outputs. • Take a pragmatic view of AI in research practice, using it where it earns its place without being precious about tooling. • Understand the usability and product challenges inherent to AI-native products.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have B2B SaaS experience. • Have built a participant panel or research operations practice from scratch. • Have coached designers and PMs on lightweight research practice. • Have partnered closely with a product data or analytics team.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Run a combination of strategic and tactical qualitative research across the product portfolio, from generative discovery through evaluative studies on live product experiences. • Hold a macro view of where research creates the most leverage, moving fluidly between product areas based on where your expertise is most needed. • Build out a participant panel and ReOps practices so recruiting stops being a bottleneck, shaping the light research operations needed as the company scales. • Influence how PMs, designers, and leadership frame problems, since this role carries a real thought leadership and change management element. • Partner closely with the Product Data team, bringing qualitative depth alongside their quantitative work to form the insight backbone feeding product and exec decisions. • Present findings to executives and shape decisions at the top of the company. • Coach designers and PMs on lightweight research practice where that is the right call.
