💼 What you will do

• Join Starling’s growing tax team as a Tax Manager. • Work alongside the Head of Indirect Tax, the Senior Corporation Tax Manager, and the finance, payroll, and HR teams. • Assist with the group’s UK and international VAT, GST, and corporation tax affairs. • Support a wide range of tax projects, including international expansion. • Manage tax compliance and tax risk across the group. • Take a leading role in tax risk management and governance. • Join at an exciting point given Starling’s growth to date and its ambitious expansion plans in the UK and abroad. • Work hybrid from the London office.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring a strong indirect and direct tax compliance and accounting background, gained in practice or industry. • Hold a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CTA with at least five years of professional experience. • Bring enthusiasm and a drive to expand your knowledge into new areas, which matters as much as experience here. • Work as a self-starter and independent worker with strong interpersonal skills. • Stay well organised, planning and delivering to tight deadlines with attention to detail. • Take a practical, commercial approach to problem solving. • Communicate complex tax matters to both tax and non-tax audiences.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Bring experience of international taxes, which would be an advantage. • Bring experience of banking taxes specifically. • Bring experience with partial exemption calculations and optimising input VAT recovery. • Bring experience advising on place-of-supply rules and registration triggers. • Bring experience improving VAT and corporation tax control frameworks. • Bring experience working collaboratively with external tax advisors. • Apply even if you do not tick every box, as Starling encourages people to get in touch anyway.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Assist with the group’s UK and international VAT and GST compliance, covering quarterly VAT returns, monthly GST returns, and partial exemption calculations. • Optimise input VAT recovery and work collaboratively with advisors. • Support cross-border expansion by advising on international VAT, GST, and corporation tax registration triggers and place-of-supply rules. • Assist in managing UK and international corporation tax compliance, including quarterly tax provisions, quarterly instalment payments, and corporation tax returns. • Take a leading role in tax risk management and governance. • Oversee and improve the VAT and corporation tax control frameworks. • Act as liaison between the finance and tax teams across the taxes.
