Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

• Take full ownership of testing excellence across Atom’s Mobile App team rather than just running test packs. • Embed a true ‘Shift Left’ mindset early in the software delivery lifecycle as the team’s quality champion. • Lead and coordinate offshore test partners to eliminate duplicate effort and drive efficiency. • Pave the way for a more hands-on, automation-first future. • Work with modern tech including Kotlin and AI tools such as Claude Code or Gemini to supercharge test engineering. • Own the team’s test strategy, build strong relationships with delivery leads and engineers, and gain control over the offshore test pipeline. • Work flexible hybrid on a four-day week, with 1 to 2 days a week in the Newcastle office.

• Bring a proven track record in mobile app automation leadership using tools such as Appium, Postman, and UI or API test tools. • Bring hands-on Kotlin experience ideally, or strong Java experience paired with an eager, self-driven desire to adopt Kotlin. • Show demonstrated experience directing, mentoring, and getting the best out of third-party test vendors. • Bring a passion for quality practices, early defect detection, and embedding testability into development teams. • Bring experience embedding Shift Left testing into the software delivery lifecycle. • Communicate clearly, assertively, and persuasively, building cross-functional trust and standing up for quality principles. • Bring keen interest or experience using generative AI tools to accelerate test case creation, execution, or code reviews. • Spend 1 to 2 days a week in the Newcastle office. • Hold the legal right to work in the UK, as Atom cannot support visa applications or sponsorship. • Adhere to the Conduct Rules set out by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.

• Bring a strong web app testing background, which is considered if paired with exceptional capability across all other areas. • Bring experience maintaining and evolving test frameworks and reviewing automation merge requests. • Bring experience with continuous testing in CI/CD pipelines. • Bring experience acting as an escalation point and trusted advisor to a software engineering team. • Bring familiarity with the FCA’s Consumer Duty and delivering fair customer outcomes.

• Drive the overall test approach, quality standards, and automated testing strategy for the core mobile app delivery team. • Direct and coach third-party and offshore test resources to maximise their output, removing duplication and streamlining test coverage. • Work alongside software engineers from the design phase onward, advocating for testable code, early defect detection, and continuous testing in CI/CD pipelines. • Explore and integrate cutting-edge AI tools such as Claude Code and Gemini into the end-to-end testing workflow to boost delivery speed and quality. • Maintain and evolve test frameworks, review automation merge requests, and write clean, maintainable test code. • Act as an escalation point and trusted advisor, holding constructive, high-impact conversations with the software engineering team.
