• Join two seasoned Infrastructure Engineers on a small, deliberate, high-leverage team that runs the platform letting every Buffer engineer ship and millions of creators publish, grow, and earn a living on the social web.
• Own a meaningful slice of three shifts the team is making: raising the reliability bar, modernising the foundation with AI-assisted development, and treating engineers across Buffer as customers.
• Work at a profitable, 15-year-old company innovating at the edge of AI-assisted development with lots of impactful work to do.
📋 Job Requirements
• Have worked as an Infrastructure Engineer, SRE, or in a DevOps or platform engineering role on systems real people depended on.
• Have run production Kubernetes, authored and maintained Helm charts, tuned autoscaling and resource requests, and kept it standing under real traffic.
• Know AWS and Terraform well, defaulting to modules, keeping code readable and adaptable, and understanding what happens when a plan touches something load-bearing.
• Have operated production CI/CD and GitOps including a rollback path you would trust when something breaks in production.
• Have carried the pager for something you built, run an incident, written the follow-up, and turned off the alert nobody trusted anymore.
• Have built internal developer tooling such as CLIs, dev environments, and per-PR environments, and felt the difference between something that ships and something that gets used.
• Thrive in remote, async environments, being clear in your thinking and generous with context.
• Be bothered by slow and flaky, shipping something rough teammates can react to and then keeping going until the whole class of problem is gone.
• Be fluent with modern AI tools, using them to debug, document, and reduce toil.
• Make pragmatic build-vs-buy calls, weighing what things cost to run and revisiting both when conditions change.
• Have a personal stake in making and publishing things, whether writing, video, code, photos, music, or a niche account with twelve followers.
🌟 Nice-to-have
• Already be a Buffer user or know the social media management space.
• Have worked with Datadog, Sentry, or a similar observability stack, designing logs and metrics with cost in mind.
• Have prior Cloudflare experience across Workers, Zero Trust, and DNS.
• Have an open-source Terraform module or tool you have contributed.
🎯 Responsibilities
• Own the day-to-day reliability of the production platform, keeping EKS, ArgoCD, and the AWS surface area boring, tuning autoscaling so the system adjusts well under load, and approaching incident response so each incident teaches something new.
• Build progressive delivery into something the rest of engineering trusts by implementing Argo Rollouts with clean rollback paths measuring in seconds to minutes.
• Build developer tools as products rather than loose scripts, evolving the in-house local development environment, BIBEs, and CLI tooling so the inner loop is fast, frictionless, and parallel-friendly for AI agents.
• Reduce operational toil with AI, automating low-risk workflows end-to-end so the team spends its time on the hard problems.
• Keep the stack current by driving lifecycle upgrades across application runtimes, Kubernetes, EKS, Helm versions, and the Terraform-managed surface area, and owning infra-side security vulnerabilities.
• Improve the economics of the platform by leading visibility work on Datadog, AWS rightsizing, and log filters so observability and cloud spend grow slower than the company does.
• Partner with EPD on the platform they build on, raising the documentation bar, carrying your share of weekly security work, and helping the infra team grow toward shared ownership.
