Site Reliability Engineer

• Drive Paddle's product and engineering department forward by ensuring reliability on different parts of the platform and helping engineers work better and more efficiently. • Be part of the SRE team within the Platform function, acting as glue between disparate product teams and defining production standards as code. • Be a driving force of improving and automating how product teams develop software at all stages of its lifecycle.

• Have a software development background with experience shipping and operating production services, plus strong fundamentals in testing, code review, CI/CD, and debugging. • Have experience working across the AWS ecosystem, partnering closely with AWS Solution Architects and subject-matter experts to design, review, and operate production systems. • Have a curiosity about AI and how it is reshaping software development. • Be collaborative, security-minded, and detail-oriented, thriving in a fast-paced environment and taking pride in doing things the right way. • Have knowledge of platform and ops concepts such as networking and Linux administration. • Have experience working with microservices and distributed systems at scale. • Have experience with monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, Grafana, Pingdom, and Incident.io.

• Have experience with Go for cloud-native services. • Have experience with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code resource management. • Have experience with AWS ECS Fargate, SQS, EventBridge, and Aurora MySQL/PostgreSQL. • Have experience with cost optimisation workstreams including right-sizing, autoscaling, and storage tiering. • Have experience with disaster recovery process creation and testing. • Have experience in a payments, fintech, or merchant-of-record business.

• Develop and maintain tools to maximise engineering efficiency such as automating deployment infrastructure and database upgrades. • Seek out processes that can be improved with automation with internal Developer Experience as a main driver, collaborating and enabling engineers to do their jobs more efficiently. • Create, maintain, and test system disaster recovery processes including tooling to automate them. • Choose from a selection of AI tools to support day-to-day work including code generation, investigation, automation, and documentation. • Handle production incidents, author blameless postmortems, and enrich operational playbooks and runbooks. • Perform monitoring, alerting, and SLO tracking as hands-on SRE work. • Run performance investigations including load testing and bottleneck analysis and drive tuning across apps, data stores, and AWS. • Own cost optimisation workstreams covering right-sizing, autoscaling policies, workload scheduling, storage tiering, and identifying waste across ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, SQS, and observability. • Be an advocate of the GitOps methodology.
