Engineering Manager (Subscriptions)

• Lead the Subscriptions team at the core of Paddle's recurring revenue engine, giving customers the tools to manage the full subscription lifecycle from plan changes and upgrades to proration, trials, and flexible billing schedules. • Be instrumental in helping scale and shape the direction of a product that powers the recurring billing operations of thousands of companies each month. • Lead a cross-functional product engineering team of 4–6 engineers alongside a Product Manager, with supporting functions embedding tools, values, and expertise for end-to-end delivery.

• Have a passion for developing people and bring at least 2 years of management experience with several direct reports. • Have proven experience as a senior software engineer working on complex, large-scale, cloud-based systems. • Have a strong and demonstrable understanding of what it means to be a high-performing and sustainable engineering team. • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading technical discussions with engineers and non-technical colleagues. • Be excited by and have specific experience in building products that handle payments, transfers, and financial reconciliation. • Enjoy getting into the details and understanding the mechanics of money movements. • Be comfortable working closely with financial, risk, and legal stakeholders, ensuring systems are reliable, compliant, and can scale. • Be proactive and enjoy taking ownership while being self-aware and always open to improving. • Have proven success working with complex problems and ambiguity, maintaining high standards while balancing progression and perfection. • Have a proven track record of bias for action and strong customer focus.

• Have experience with Go or similar languages. • Have experience building or scaling subscription or recurring billing systems. • Have experience contributing to the role of metrics within a wider data strategy. • Have experience in a payments, fintech, or merchant-of-record business.

• Facilitate the delivery of initiatives to a high standard from initial concept and planning through to rollout, collaborating with engineers and non-technical colleagues. • Manage and coach the engineers in your team so they develop both personally and professionally and are able to perform together with impact. • Partner with the team's Product Manager to create a roadmap for success, making sure the team is working in the right way for maximum and sustainable impact. • Drive improvements to the processes and practices of the team with the autonomy to do what you think is right and change what is not working. • Have oversight of the technical decisions being made in your team and responsibility for the technical strategy within the product area the team owns. • Contribute to the role of metrics within the wider data strategy of Paddle. • Help to continuously improve the reliability and scalability of Paddle's high-traffic event-driven system. • Work with other leaders across Engineering, contributing to the department's engineering principles and practices to build an industry-leading organisation.
