Regional Research Economist, Economic Research

• Join Anthropic’s Economic Research team as a Regional Research Economist in London. • Measure and understand AI’s effects on the economy with governments, academia, industry and civil society. • Extend the Anthropic Economic Index to produce regionally relevant insights. • Use frontier methods in econometrics, machine learning and structural estimation. • Analyse millions of real-world AI interactions through a privacy-preserving measurement system. • Earn £195,000–£245,000, working from the London office at least 25% of the time.

• Hold a PhD in Economics. • Show a strong track record of empirical research using novel data, causal inference or machine learning. • Bring relevant experience and relationships across the region. • Bring experience in areas such as labour markets, task-based approaches, econometrics or macroeconomic modelling. • Write Python, R, SQL or similar tools for large-scale data analysis. • Bring experience with novel datasets and measurement systems. • Lead complex research projects from conception to publication. • Explain technical findings clearly to academic, policy and industry audiences. • Think critically about the capabilities and limitations of AI systems.

• Bring experience using large language models for social science research. • Show experience with experimental and quasi-experimental methods. • Bring experience with agent-based modelling or large-scale simulation. • Show a record of policy-relevant research, briefs or advisory work.

• Act as the primary contact for academic institutions, think tanks and research partners in your region. • Lead research collaborations on country- and region-specific economic impact questions. • Turn research insights into actionable policy recommendations. • Contribute to the development and regional expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index. • Develop new methods to study AI’s impact on labour markets, productivity, inequality and GDP. • Improve measurement infrastructure and data collection with technical teams. • Share findings through publications, policy briefs and presentations.
