Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering

• Join Anthropic’s Applied AI team as the first Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering in London. • Build and scale a team of FDEs who embed with strategic customers to ship production AI applications. • Set the technical and operational bar for customer engagements. • Turn one-off successes into repeatable playbooks for enterprise AI adoption. • Work as a player-coach with a strong bias towards leadership. • Earn £255,000–£325,000, working from the London office at least 25% of the time.

• Bring 10+ years in software engineering, solutions architecture or a technical customer-facing role such as FDE or consulting. • Show 2+ years managing people in a services, post-sales or FDE organisation. • Show a track record of hiring, developing and retaining strong engineers. • Bring experience building an organisation from 0 to 1, not just inheriting one. • Work directly with enterprise customers on technical implementations and complex organisational dynamics. • Move easily between strategic conversations with senior stakeholders and hands-on debugging with engineers. • Translate technical complexity into clear narratives for diverse audiences. • Travel to customer sites 25–50% of the time. • Hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent mix of education, training and experience.

• Bring hands-on experience building applications with large language models. • Show experience creating playbooks, starter repositories or integration templates. • Bring experience working alongside engagement managers on delivery. • Show experience feeding field insights into product roadmaps.

• Hire, develop and retain a world-class team of Forward Deployed Engineers. • Run regular 1:1s, give technical mentorship and invest in each person’s career growth. • Staff customer engagements, balancing customer needs, team development and business priorities. • Help qualify and scope engagements with account teams during pre-sales. • Review your team’s architectures and code to ensure production-ready quality. • Lead technical discovery, prototype solutions and debug complex issues when needed. • Build playbooks, starter repositories, templates and an internal knowledge base. • Define team OKRs and operating rhythms such as standups, retros and engagement reviews. • Turn field insights into product improvements with Product and Engineering.
