Senior Software Engineer I - KYC Experience

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join the Wise Platform KYC Experience team, owning the end-to-end onboarding and identity verification capabilities that power partner integrations with companies like Google, Deel, Ramp, and Agoda. • Build the APIs and services that let partners onboard their customers compliantly and seamlessly, setting the standard for world-class embedded KYC. • Work in an autonomous cross-functional team alongside engineers, product, analytics, compliance, and operations with full autonomy to shape the direction of the KYC experience. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have a strong foundation in modern Java or other JVM-based languages with experience in the Spring framework, and a commitment to clean, testable, and highly performant code. • Have deep experience building and operating microservices with a solid understanding of event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and concurrency patterns. • Have hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems, including designing robust, scalable event pipelines. • Be proficient with relational and non-relational databases including query optimisation, schema design, and thoughtful data lifecycle management for sensitive information. • Have a strong product mindset and passion for user experience, prioritising work with customers in mind and making data-driven decisions to fix partner problems. • Have experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean, performant, and well-tested code. • Communicate effectively and articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Have prior experience building public-facing APIs for platform or partner integration products. • Bring experience with KYC, identity verification, or compliance-related systems. • Have experience owning technical roadmaps and balancing technical debt, reliability, scalability, and security concerns. • Bring experience mentoring teammates through code reviews and raising the bar for technical excellence. • Have experience contributing to high-impact cross-team initiatives that unlock new capabilities for partners.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Design and build public-facing APIs for Wise Platform and partners that are intuitive, consistent, and easy to use, setting the standard for seamless financial integrations. • Own technical roadmaps for your areas of ownership, ensuring they address important technical debt, reliability, scalability, and security concerns. • Architect highly robust and scalable microservices using event-driven design patterns. • Participate in product roadmapping and strategy sessions with product management and the rest of the cross-functional team. • Take initiative to solve impactful problems both within the team and beyond, contributing to high-impact cross-team initiatives that unlock new capabilities and value for partners. • Mentor and influence teammates through code reviews and best practices, raising the bar for technical excellence.
