Software Engineer, Compute

• Join Vercel’s Persistence team, within the Compute division, as a Software Engineer. • Work on the compute infrastructure behind 6 million daily deployments and a trillion monthly requests. • Own storage and state for Builds, Sandboxes and Functions on Hive, Vercel’s compute platform. • Help redefine compute with features such as Fluid Compute, Persistent Sandboxes and Custom Images. • Rethink low-level primitives across virtual filesystems, Linux and virtualisation. • Work hybrid from London, or fully remotely from elsewhere in the UK.

• Bring 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in Go. • Bring deep experience with virtual machines, file systems and Linux internals. • Use tools such as tcpdump, strace and iptables to understand how systems work. • Show experience building and operating distributed systems at scale. • Bring experience with schedulers and orchestrators such as Nomad or Kubernetes. • Solve problems that don’t have obvious solutions and communicate clearly. • Take part in on-call for the compute platform. • Be based in the UK.

• Bring experience with low-level virtualisation or sandbox execution environments. • Show product engineering experience and care about infrastructure’s impact on developers. • Bring experience with on-call operations for large-scale distributed systems.

• Manage and improve a fleet of clusters running hundreds of instances across every region. • Write Go daily and provision infrastructure with Terraform. • Manage workloads with Nomad as the scheduler. • Rethink infrastructure primitives across virtual filesystems, Linux and virtualisation. • Own the reliability and performance of the compute platform, including on-call. • Work across teams to converge all compute at Vercel.
