Senior Software Engineer I - Acquiring Platform (Backend, Java)

• Join the newly-formed Acquiring Platform team at a critical growth moment, building the infrastructure that will power Wise's entire merchant payment ecosystem. • Expand payment method coverage to include Google Pay, Apple Pay, PIX, and UPI, and extend the platform into major ecommerce stores and PSPs. • Build infrastructure used by tens of thousands of merchants in a team small enough that your decisions have real weight. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

• Have strong proficiency in backend programming languages like Java, Python, or Go. • Have expertise in designing and implementing RESTful APIs. • Have in-depth knowledge of distributed systems principles. • Demonstrate experience working in product-led companies with a strong product mindset that prioritises user needs and business goals. • Communicate excellently in both verbal and written form, conveying technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. • Break down complex problems into shippable milestones that deliver value fast. • Have proven experience managing relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring alignment and balancing stakeholder needs with technical feasibility.

• Have experience designing and optimising distributed architectures. • Bring a solid understanding of database fundamentals. • Have experience with messaging systems such as Kafka. • Bring a good understanding of payment systems and financial transactions. • Have experience building or extending payment platform APIs, SDKs, and webhook integrations.

• Build and expand the Acquiring Platform API, SDK, and Webhooks that allow businesses and platforms to use Wise to power their checkout pages. • Expand payment method coverage to include Google Pay, Apple Pay, PIX, UPI, and other local payment methods. • Extend the platform into more ecommerce store builders and Payment Service Providers so Wise can power checkout in the most popular platforms. • Work on dashboards, payment method management, payment details experience, and payment actions such as refunding. • Build infrastructure that unlocks new merchant segments globally.
