Engineering Lead - Account Management

• Lead the Account Management engineering team building the Current Account and Everyday banking experience at the heart of Wise. • Own how customers hold, organise, and move their money day to day — their main account and Jars, the home screen, and the flows to move, convert, and add funds — plus the ledger and money-movement systems the rest of the company builds on. • Span engineering, product, and people — going broad across all three rather than deep in any one. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

• Have a strong backend engineering background, close enough to the code to guide senior engineers through hard problems. • Have a deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices, with comfort making high-impact architectural decisions. • Have a track record of owning the reliability, scalability, and correctness of critical systems at scale. • Be comfortable in a JVM codebase or confident you'll get there fast — the team works with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot. • Have experience leading a team of engineers and owning what they deliver. • Lead through trust — give people context and direction and let them own their work. • Communicate clearly, holding a technical argument with engineers and explaining it plainly to everyone else. • Have a product engineer's mindset — measure your work by customer and business impact. • Have a bias to action and comfort with ambiguity, moving quickly without dropping quality.

• Use AI to build faster and be curious about where it's heading. • Have worked in fintech, payments, or banking. • Bring experience coordinating delivery across backend, web, and mobile simultaneously. • Have experience partnering with Product Managers and Designers to shape what gets built and why. • Have experience working across team boundaries on shared systems and infrastructure.

• Lead the team's engineers — own what they ship and their wellbeing, and build a clear view of how to grow each of them. • Stay hands-on: write code, review designs and PRs, and drive whole features across backend, web, and mobile, coordinating delivery across all three. • Own the team's technical roadmap — decide how the systems evolve, keep reliability and tech-debt risk in check, and make the architectural calls that matter. • Partner with the PM and Design, giving sharp feedback on what's worth building and why. • Work across boundaries with the teams you build alongside: Account Sharing on joint accounts, Send on how money moves in and out, and Wise Platform on products they build on top of account.
