Backend Engineer - Account Sharing

• Join the Account Sharing team within Wise's Consumer Squad, building entirely new products in the shared finances space — including international joint accounts and kid accounts. • Make it easy for families, couples, friends, and flatmates across different countries to manage money together seamlessly through Wise in ways existing financial products cannot. • Work in a highly product-oriented, greenfield engineering role where you help shape products from the ground up alongside Product Managers, Designers, Data Analysts, and User Researchers. • Work hybrid from Wise's London office.

• Know how to build scalable distributed systems and deliver customer-facing products used by millions of users. • Be proficient in backend programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go. • Have strong experience designing asynchronous, reliable, and scalable systems within microservice architectures. • Be comfortable working in greenfield environments where requirements evolve rapidly and ambiguity is part of the process. • Have a strong product mindset and enjoy collaborating closely with Product Managers, Designers, Analysts, and Researchers to shape solutions, not just implement them. • Care deeply about customer experience and understand how technical decisions impact end users. • Be comfortable contributing to architectural discussions, challenging assumptions, and influencing technical and product direction. • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and care about long-term scalability and reliability. • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively across teams. • Operate independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture.

• Have experience building greenfield products from scratch. • Bring experience working on international consumer products. • Have experience with payments, financial systems, or compliance-heavy environments. • Bring experience building systems at global scale. • Have familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka. • Bring experience with customer-facing financial products and API-first development.

• Build international joint accounts for globally distributed users. • Expand Wise kid accounts into additional markets. • Create shared finance experiences that work across borders. • Design scalable backend systems for high-growth consumer products. • Develop features around shared spending, sending and receiving money, and account customisation. • Collaborate on customer discovery and product iteration. • Scale infrastructure and improve reliability across multiple markets. • Build greenfield financial products from concept to production. • Work across multiple areas of the Wise ecosystem including send/receive flows, spend experiences, authorisation systems, FinCrime-related systems, and shared account infrastructure.
