Senior Product Engineer (Backend-Leaning Fullstack)

Posted on 5 August 2026

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Help maintain and evolve B2C products used by millions while playing a key role in building a new B2B offering from the ground up. • Build the TypeScript/NestJS services powering the mobile app and ship full-stack features from backend through frontend on web products. • Join at a pivotal moment where speed, user feedback, and product-market fit drive decisions.

📋 Job Requirements

• Be a Product Engineer first and an engineer second, treating code as a tool where the goal is user value and business impact. • Hold strong backend depth in TypeScript and NestJS or comparable Node.js frameworks. • Bring solid web frontend skills with React, Next.js, or similar, enough to ship polished, production-quality interfaces independently. • Own features end to end from API design and data modelling to web frontend implementation, deployment, and post-launch iteration. • Design APIs and services that serve mobile clients beautifully, accounting for offline, network, battery, and app-release realities. • Have working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, ideally GCP including Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and Firestore, plus CI/CD pipelines and event-driven patterns such as BullMQ/Redis. • Thrive in fast-paced, early-stage environments and collaborate proactively with mobile, design, and product teammates.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Be a current user of Whering. • Bring experience with Angular or Vue as alternative frontend frameworks. • Have direct experience partnering closely with mobile engineers on API design and service contracts. • Show experience shipping throwaway prototypes to validate hypotheses with real users. • Demonstrate comfort contributing to product strategy conversations alongside PMs and designers. • Bring experience monitoring analytics post-launch to validate whether features were worth building.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Build TypeScript/NestJS backend services powering the mobile app and ship full-stack features across web products. • Push back on the why before the how, asking whether something is worth building and proposing simpler alternatives when a shorter version captures most of a feature's value. • Ship throwaway prototypes to validate hypotheses with real users, deleting what flops and re-architecting what succeeds. • Own features through to actual user adoption, actively monitoring analytics post-launch to prove a feature was worth building. • Sit with PMs and designers to shape what gets built and what doesn't, contributing insights from user data, technical constraints, and implementation realities. • Make calibrated calls on architecture, scale, and tech debt based on what the product actually needs. • Partner closely with mobile engineers to design APIs that are delightful to consume from mobile clients. • Ship and operate your own services across cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
