Senior Product Engineer (Backend-Leaning Fullstack)

• Join Whering as a Senior Product Engineer at a pivotal moment, based in the United Kingdom. • Maintain and evolve B2C products used by millions of people. • Play a key role in building Whering’s new B2B offering from the ground up. • Build the TypeScript and NestJS services that power the Whering mobile app. • Ship full-stack features, from backend through frontend, on Whering’s web products. • Work as a strategic partner to product and design, shaping what gets built and what doesn’t. • Report to the Head of Engineering, starting as soon as possible.

• Put user value and business impact first, treating code as a tool rather than the goal. • Bring strong backend depth in TypeScript and NestJS, or comparable Node.js frameworks. • Bring solid web frontend skills in React, Next.js, or similar, shipping polished interfaces independently. • Design APIs and services that serve mobile clients well, accounting for offline use, network, battery, and app-release realities. • Own features end to end, from API design and data modelling to frontend, deployment, and post-launch iteration. • Bring working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and event-driven patterns such as BullMQ or Redis. • Ship and operate your own services confidently. • Collaborate proactively with mobile engineers, designers, and product managers. • Thrive in fast-paced, early-stage environments driven by speed, user feedback, and product-market fit. • Make pragmatic, calibrated calls on architecture, scale, and technical debt. • Be based in the United Kingdom.

• Use Whering yourself as a current user. • Bring cloud experience on GCP specifically, including Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and Firestore. • Bring experience with Angular or Vue, which Whering is happy to consider alongside React.

• Ask why a feature is being built before deciding how to build it. • Propose simpler alternatives that capture most of a feature’s value in a fraction of the time. • Tell PMs and designers honestly when something isn’t worth building. • Ship throwaway prototypes to validate hypotheses with real users. • Delete what flops and re-architect what succeeds, treating technical debt as a deliberate tool. • Monitor analytics after launch and treat a feature as done only when users adopt it and metrics prove its value. • Shape the roadmap with PMs and designers using user data, technical constraints, and implementation realities. • Build backend services for the mobile app and full-stack features for web products.
