About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Cytora (now an Applied Systems company) as a Senior Backend Engineer, transforming how insurers and brokers connect, operate, and grow through an AI-powered platform. • Work in a small backend functional team of 4–5 people that works independently, prototyping, implementing, shipping, and supporting features that are changing the insurance industry. • Build on a core product that digitises risks, relying heavily on Generative AI including Google Gemini. • Work fully remote from anywhere in the UK or Ireland.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have experience with Git and GitHub. • Be proficient in Python including libraries such as msgspec, httpx, pydantic, FastAPI, structlog, SQLAlchemy, alembic, jinja2, pytest, ruff, and mypy. • Have strong experience with mypy or other static type checkers. • Have experience building REST APIs with OpenAPI spec documentation. • Have experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL. • Have experience with Docker for packaging code and docker-compose for local development. • Have experience with AWS Lambda for deploying backend code. • Have experience with AWS S3, RDS, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, and SES.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have experience with Redis. • Bring experience with GCP Vertex AI and Gemini for generative AI workloads. • Have experience with GCP BigQuery for analytics. • Bring experience with OCR engines such as AWS Textract, Google Document AI, or Tesseract OCR. • Have experience with prompt engineering. • Bring experience with Kubernetes, CircleCI, DataDog, Auth0, role-based access control, JSON Schema, Pusher, LocalStack, or Terraform.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Prototype, implement, ship, and support features within a small, independent backend functional team. • Work on digitising risks for the insurance industry using Generative AI. • Build and maintain backend services deployed as AWS Lambda functions. • Collaborate with a technical lead and product owner to deliver the right features. • Contribute to an engineering team distributed across Europe.
