Senior Backend Engineer

• Join Cytora, now part of Applied Systems, as a Senior Backend Engineer. • Help digitise insurance risks using Generative AI at the core of the product. • Work in a small, independent team of 4–5 people with a technical lead and product owner. • Prototype, build, ship and support features that are changing the insurance industry. • Join engineering and product teams distributed across Europe. • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK or Ireland at a remote-first company.

• Bring strong Python experience, including tools such as FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy and pytest. • Use mypy or another static type checker extensively. • Build REST APIs documented with OpenAPI. • Work with relational databases such as Postgres. • Package and run code with Docker and docker-compose. • Deploy backend code as AWS Lambda functions. • Use AWS services including S3, RDS, API Gateway, SQS, SNS and SES. • Use Git confidently. • Speak and write English fluently. • Be based in the UK or Ireland with the permanent right to work.

• Bring experience with GCP Vertex AI, Gemini and BigQuery. • Show experience with OCR engines such as AWS Textract or Google Document AI. • Bring prompt engineering experience. • Use Redis, Kubernetes, Terraform or LocalStack. • Bring experience with CircleCI, Datadog, Auth0 and role-based access control. • Know JSON Schema and real-time notification tools such as Pusher.

• Prototype, implement, ship and support new product features. • Build backend services that digitise insurance risks using Generative AI. • Design and document REST APIs. • Deploy and run services on AWS Lambda and related AWS infrastructure. • Write well-typed, well-tested Python code. • Work with your technical lead and product owner to deliver the right features.
