About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Wayve as a System Test Automation Engineer, working hybrid from London. • Build robust, reusable automation within the Verification and Release Test team, which sits across hardware, embedded software and machine learning models. • Test at component, system and vehicle levels using novel automation built in-house to catch issues earlier in development. • Own the design and delivery of automated verification for a defined area of the embedded software stack. • Grow into broader areas of the system, including sensing and model-behaviour testing, as Wayve and your experience evolve. • Help shape ways of working at a company that is still writing its playbook, with real ownership.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring hands-on experience of system-level verification and validation in robotics, embedded software or mechatronic systems, with a track record of independently delivering test automation. • Show strong Python skills and experience building automation test frameworks with pytest. • Use HIL testing tools and interfaces such as CAN, Ethernet or GMSL, and tools from dSPACE, Vector, Xylon or similar providers. • Understand open-loop and closed-loop HIL replay testing using dSPACE or other emulators. • Know automotive safety and process standards including ISO 26262, ASPICE and SOTIF. • Apply CI/CD principles and tooling such as GitLab CI, Buildkite and Bazel. • Communicate clearly and work effectively across software, hardware, autonomy, DevOps and product teams.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have experience with requirements and test-management tools such as Jama and Xray. • Know Euro NCAP protocols (including AEB and LSS/LKA scenarios), DCAS testing under UN R171, and automotive cybersecurity standards such as ISO/SAE 21434 and UN R155. • Bring experience with L2+ hands-off, L3 or L4 automated driving systems. • Use dashboards, logging and reporting tools such as Grafana, Looker, Datadog and Jira. • Apply agentic AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code to speed up test development and debugging.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Develop automation for system functionality tests at component, integration and system levels across software and hardware boundaries. • Build open-loop and closed-loop HIL replay tests, plus reliability and fault-injection tests, to support verification, release and debugging. • Lead root-cause investigations of failures found in test campaigns, working with hardware, software, infrastructure and DevOps teams. • Analyse test results, uncover software and hardware bugs, and report findings in Jira with clear evidence. • Optimise Buildkite CI/CD-integrated test workflows for rapid, reliable and repeatable execution. • Integrate requirements, coverage and compliance workflows, including Jama, MC/DC coverage analysis and MISRA checks, and manage test artefacts through Artifactory and Azure. • Develop traceability dashboards and define KPIs and quality metrics to support data-driven release decisions. • Review, create and follow risk assessments so all testing is carried out safely.
