Software Engineer - Functions (Compute)

• Join Supabase as a Software Engineer on Functions (Compute), working fully remotely from anywhere in the world. • Help build Compute, Supabase’s newly launched microVM architecture for running agentic workloads. • Work alongside the existing Edge Functions service for server-side TypeScript at the edge. • Help developers build truly global apps by distributing both compute and data. • Make regions, cold starts and resource provisioning fade into the background. • Contribute upstream to open-source projects such as Firecracker and Deno.

• Bring 5+ years of backend or systems engineering experience. • Write Rust and TypeScript fluently. • Show experience with Firecracker, V8 Isolates, Deno or related runtime isolation technologies. • Bring experience running infrastructure at scale with Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis or similar. • Bring a strong vision for pushing compute and data to the edge. • Take part in an on-call rotation for production systems.

• Bring experience building developer-facing CLIs. • Show experience building front-end tooling on top of an infrastructure product. • Bring experience with OpenTelemetry tracing. • Show open-source contributions to runtime or infrastructure projects.

• Help build and architect the Supabase Compute platform on Firecracker microVMs. • Add monitoring, alerting and OpenTelemetry tracing, and use it to improve latency and reliability. • Work with Firecracker, Deno and other open-source teams and contribute upstream. • Take part in on-call to keep Compute healthy in production. • Improve scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSocket streaming and custom routing. • Integrate Compute more tightly with Auth, Postgres, Storage and Realtime. • Expand the runtime to support AI inference, MCP servers and simple websites. • Improve local development and debugging through the Supabase CLI.
