• Build the internal infrastructure and tools used to train, evaluate and serve Cohere's foundation models.
• Work with AI researchers and ML engineers on the stability, scalability and observability of training systems.
• Own the developer platform that researchers use to write, build and debug training code.
• Accelerate the models behind Cohere's enterprise AI platform, North.
• Take part in a compensated 24x7 on-call rotation as part of the role.
📋 Job Requirements
• Run a developer platform in production, such as CI, image builds, dev environments or internal tooling that many engineers depend on.
• Show a track record of making ML engineers or researchers faster without making the platform fragile.
• Know Linux and Kubernetes well enough to debug production systems.
• Write software in Python or Go, and prefer extending solid open-source projects to rebuilding them.
• Work effectively with researchers, ML engineers or other teams whose goals differ from your own.
• Identify bottlenecks, propose fixes and drive them to completion in a fast-moving environment.
🌟 Nice-to-have
• Operate a GPU cluster.
• Contribute to open-source infrastructure or developer tooling projects.
• Bring experience supporting research teams as they scale.
• Apply even if your experience does not line up exactly with every requirement.
🎯 Responsibilities
• Run secure developer environments that stay controlled while speeding up developer velocity as the research organisation scales.
• Own container image build and CI/CD tooling.
• Instrument training code and build self-service tooling so researchers can see why a run failed and debug it themselves.
• Set infrastructure best practices through AI enablement, documentation and office hours.
• Troubleshoot production failures and performance problems, leaving the system easier to operate than you found it.
• Build automation, infrastructure-as-code and observability to keep the platform maintainable.
• Join a compensated 24x7 on-call rotation.
