Forward-Deployed Engineer

• Join the Professional Services team and embed directly with Vercel's most strategic enterprise customers to drive transformational outcomes across frontend modernisation, platform migrations, and AI adoption. • Lead complex Next.js migrations, architect high-performance applications, and build production AI solutions inside customer environments. • Work hands-on-keyboard alongside customer teams, whether migrating a legacy React application to App Router, running a deep-dive code audit, or deploying production agents with Vercel's AI SDK. • Operate with high agency and autonomy, navigating ambiguous enterprise environments, assessing technical debt, designing migration strategies, and delivering measurable business value. • Report to the Director of Professional Services and work remote-first with 25-40% travel to customer sites for embedded engagements.

• Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 in a customer-facing technical role such as consulting, solutions engineering, forward deployed engineering, or as a technical founder. • Bring expert-level TypeScript as your primary language, writing production code daily with strong opinions on type safety, patterns, and tooling. • Have deep Next.js expertise, with a proven track record architecting and delivering complex applications using App Router, Server Components, SSR, SSG, ISR, and edge functions. • Have led frontend migrations, modernising legacy applications to Next.js and navigating incremental adoption in production environments. • Master React and its ecosystem, including advanced state management, performance optimisation, and modern patterns such as streaming, suspense, and concurrent features. • Have production experience with LLMs and AI applications, covering prompt engineering, agent development, and tool use patterns. • Bring high agency and comfort with ambiguity, thriving when given a problem to solve rather than a task to complete. • Communicate exceptionally, running technical discovery, presenting to executives, mentoring engineers, and building lasting customer relationships with a low-ego, collaborative approach. • Bring business acumen to understand customer objectives, translate technical capabilities into ROI, and spot expansion opportunities. • Be willing to travel 25-40% to customer sites.

• Have familiarity with Vercel's AI SDK. • Have led large-scale migrations from legacy frameworks such as Create React App, Gatsby, or custom webpack setups in enterprise environments. • Have expertise in performance optimisation and Core Web Vitals, diagnosing and fixing LCP, CLS, and INP issues at scale. • Have experience with Model Context Protocol, building MCP servers, or implementing complex tool-use patterns in production. • Have led enterprise AI transformation initiatives, including production agents that automated manual processes or replaced legacy systems. • Have worked with micro-frontends, module federation, or multi-team frontend architectures. • Have contributed to the Next.js, React, or AI SDK open-source projects, or maintain popular related libraries. • Have experience with enterprise deployment patterns including security reviews, compliance requirements, and multi-region architectures. • Have a background in financial services, healthcare, retail and e-commerce, or media. • Have spoken at conferences or published thought leadership on frontend architecture, migrations, or AI applications.

• Lead complex frontend migrations, modernising legacy React, Vue, or other frameworks to Next.js, including Pages to App Router transitions and large-scale codebase transformations. • Conduct technical assessments and code audits, analysing customer codebases for performance bottlenecks and architectural anti-patterns, and delivering actionable roadmaps. • Architect and implement high-performance Next.js applications using App Router, Server Components, streaming, ISR, edge functions, and advanced rendering strategies. • Optimise Core Web Vitals and application performance using tools like Vercel Speed Insights to improve SEO, conversion rates, and user experience. • Build production AI solutions with the Vercel AI SDK and AI Cloud, including conversational interfaces, production agents, MCP servers, and agentic workflows. • Embed with strategic customers to build production applications, working within their systems and shipping TypeScript code that goes live. • Drive enablement and knowledge transfer through workshops, pair programming, and documentation so customer teams can extend and maintain solutions independently. • Navigate complex enterprise environments, building relationships across engineering, product, and executive teams and translating technical capabilities into business outcomes. • Take part in pre-sales activities, providing technical expertise during discovery calls, scoping sessions, and proposal development. • Contribute to service evolution by identifying repeatable patterns, building reusable components, and sharing implementation insights with Product and Engineering.
