Senior Data Engineer

• Deliver Tripadvisor's first-in-class data products serving all data users across the organisation, working with terabyte-scale datasets across a continuously modernising tech stack. • Build, optimise, maintain, and secure the full data vertical including tracking instrumentation, information architecture, ETL pipelines, and tooling that provide key analytics insights for business-critical decisions. • Join the Data Platform Enterprise Services Team collaborating with engineering and business stakeholders across Product, Finance, Sales, CRM, Marketing, and Data Science.

• Hold a BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline. • Bring 6+ years of data engineering or general software development experience. • Have experience working with large datasets at terabyte scale using technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, and relational databases. • Demonstrate comprehensive data design and data modelling experience. • Show solid experience developing complex ETL processes from concept to implementation including SLA definition, performance measurements, and monitoring. • Write advanced complex SQL queries across large datasets. • Bring systems performance and optimisation experience with an eye for how architecture and design impacts scalability. • Have experience in functional programming in Python or an equivalent language. • Lead medium to large size projects in terms of writing technical specs and project planning. • Communicate effectively with both business and technical teams.

• Bring exposure to or interest in machine learning and data science to help solve day-to-day problems in innovative ways. • Have experience working with task orchestration tools such as Airflow or similar systems. • Be comfortable working in a Linux CLI environment. • Show experience designing high-scale, fault-tolerant, and performant distributed applications. • Have experience developing and managing real-time data pipelines. • Bring experience in programming languages such as Java or equivalent. • Hold experience with data governance.

• Provide the organisation's data consumers high-quality datasets through data curation, consolidation, and manipulation from a wide variety of large-scale sources. • Build high-quality data pipelines and ETL processes interacting with terabytes of data on platforms such as Snowflake and BigQuery. • Develop and improve enterprise data marts by creating efficient and scalable data models used across the organisation. • Partner with analytics, data science, CRM, and machine learning teams for data solutions. • Maintain enterprise data mart integrity, validation, and documentation. • Manage data pipeline SLAs and dependency management. • Write technical documentation for data solutions and present at design reviews. • Solve data pipeline failure events and implement anomaly detection. • Work with various teams from analytics to product owners and front-end developers on tracking solutions. • Mentor junior members of the team.
