About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Tailscale as a Customer Reliability Engineer, working fully remotely from the UK. • Own the most complex, ambiguous customer escalations where the root cause isn’t obvious. • Close the gap between a customer describing a problem and engineering having what it needs to fix it. • Work closely with Customer Success, Support and Product/Engineering. • Report directly to the Customer Reliability Engineer Team Lead. • Earn £90,850–£113,760 plus equity.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring 4+ years in a technical support or escalation role at a SaaS or infrastructure company. • Show ownership of escalated or enterprise-tier accounts. • Stay calm and build trust on live, high-stakes customer calls. • Bring hands-on networking experience with TCP/IP, routing, DNS, firewalls, NAT, VPNs and load balancers. • Know overlay networking concepts such as WireGuard, UDP hole punching and STUN. • Read Go source, reason about goroutines and locks, and read pprof profiles. • Work comfortably with cloud IaaS, CI/CD, containers and Kubernetes debugging. • Troubleshoot across Linux, macOS and Windows. • Build reproducible test cases and clear, evidence-backed bug reports. • Script in Go or Python and perform packet-level analysis.

• Bring experience with Tailscale or comparable VPN and networking products. • Show experience running a homelab network environment. • Bring experience writing runbooks and support tooling. • Show experience spotting systemic issues across support escalations.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Own high-severity, post-sales technical escalations from intake to resolution or engineering handoff. • Investigate and reproduce hard-to-isolate bugs. • Join customer calls, pull logs and share leading theories. • Build handoff packages with reproducible cases, log evidence, version matrices and impact scope. • File and track confirmed bugs while keeping full customer context. • Spot recurring or systemic issues across escalations early. • Turn learnings into product improvements, tooling and runbooks for the Support team.
