Software Engineering Manager, Content Agent

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Lead the team behind Sanity Content Agent, where AI meets structured content: an intelligent assistant that understands each customer's content model, follows references like an experienced team member, and combines web research with internal content knowledge in a single conversation. • Work on a product uniquely positioned by Sanity's scaled Content Lake, which holds customers' structured content and becomes rich context that generic AI tools cannot match. • Push the boundaries of what happens when AI truly understands content: auditing thousands of documents in seconds, surfacing inconsistencies before customers do, and generating perfectly structured documents that respect complex validation rules. • Lead a strong and growing team of 4 engineers with room to scale as the product grows. • Own the strategy, roadmap, and execution alongside the team's product manager and designer, creating an environment where the team can shine. • Work from the London or Oslo office at least 2-3 days a week.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have 1+ years of engineering management experience and 4+ years of engineering experience. • Bring a strong technical background in TypeScript and JavaScript along with modern web technologies. • Navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in product direction. • Have working knowledge of prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and techniques for improving model reliability. • Understand embedding models, vector search, and how to ground AI outputs in structured data. • Distinguish AI capabilities that genuinely solve user problems from those that just demo well. • Show a track record of shipping user-facing products at scale. • Have led teams building complex, extensible applications. • Understand software architecture design considerations. • Grasp web fundamentals and toolchains, with a clear picture of how the modern web works. • Bring strong organisational and planning skills. • Be based in London or Oslo.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have worked in developer tools or content platforms. • Have experience at a product or SaaS company. • Have built agentic workflows or LLM integrations in production. • Have championed developer experience while building for non-technical users.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Help a team of talented engineers organise and prioritise their work for the highest impact. • Balance technical excellence against shipping velocity in a fast-moving environment. • Champion developer experience while building for non-technical content creators. • Influence the direction of both Sanity and modern web development and content operations. • Work closely with the Head of Engineering and with product management and design leadership to facilitate teamwork and establish processes that scale. • Support the growth and development of your team and each of its members. • Grow a strong and engaged team to meet the challenges ahead.

💖 What makes Sanity unique

Sanity builds an AI-powered content operating system that lets teams model, create, and automate content the way their business actually runs, replacing rigid legacy content management systems. It treats content as data so it can live in a single source of truth while adapting to any channel, and companies including SKIMS, Figma, Riot Games, Anthropic, Nordstrom, and Morning Brew run their content operations on it. The 200+ person company recently raised an $85 million Series C led by GP Bullhound, with backing from ICONIQ Growth, Threshold Ventures, Heavybit, and Shopify.
