Engineering Manager (Platform – Application Excellence)

• Join Paddle, the Merchant of Record that removes payment fragmentation for digital product companies, in a full-time remote role. • Lead the Application Excellence team, one of two teams in the wider Platform group alongside SRE. • Make Paddle’s engineers faster and more effective through better internal developer experience. • Establish golden paths and best practices, and build self-serve tooling. • Diagnose what needs fixing by listening across the organisation, then bring stakeholders with you. • Report to the Director of Engineering who looks after the Platform group. • Work with Go, PHP Laravel, AWS, Terraform, Docker and Honeycomb.

• Bring significant experience as a senior engineer on complex, large-scale cloud systems. • Show time spent on platform or internal developer experience teams. • Bring 2+ years of management experience with several direct reports, at two or more companies. • Show genuine passion for developing people. • Bring specific experience building products for internal stakeholders and developers. • Gather and synthesise feedback, then communicate a clear rationale that brings people with you. • Hold plans loosely, updating strong views readily as new evidence appears. • Thrive in ambiguity and shape loosely defined problems into a clear, sequenced path. • Show a strong understanding of what makes a high-performing, sustainable engineering team. • Stay proactive and self-aware, always pushing to improve. • Be based in the UK, Ireland or Portugal.

• Bring experience with Go. • Show experience maintaining shared libraries relied on by dozens of services. • Bring experience with observability tooling such as Honeycomb, SLOs and OpenTelemetry. • Show experience working on high-traffic, event-driven systems.

• Lead the team to deliver initiatives from concept and planning through to rollout. • Own developer productivity and internal developer experience as outcomes. • Build buy-in across the organisation before committing the team to a direction. • Own a clear, well-argued roadmap for sustainable impact. • Coordinate with SRE, Security, Principal Engineers and leadership, influencing without authority. • Manage and coach your engineers, supporting their growth and team performance. • Stay hands-on and technically credible, contributing to code and reviews. • Oversee technical decisions and contribute to the Platform group’s strategy. • Maintain the team’s shared libraries and tools, and roll changes out safely. • Drive improvements to processes, reliability and scalability with autonomy to change what is not working.
