Staff Product Engineer

• Pick and lead the big, often cross-team bets that change how well Nous helps members, operating at a scope that cuts across teams and directly shapes company direction. • Work as a hands-on individual contributor spending most of your time in code, system design, and product thinking — not people management. • Report directly to the CTO and work closely with Product, Ops, and the rest of leadership to influence what the company does next.

• Be hungry and product-obsessed, caring as much about the member outcome and UX as the elegance of the system behind it. • Have led fuzzy, cross-functional bets before, pulling together product, ops, and engineering to ship something that really moved a metric. • Get frustrated by wasted effort or avoidable complexity, and naturally design paved roads so others don't trip on the same things twice. • Be happiest when hands-on in code, but also enjoy writing the doc, drawing the diagram, and bringing others with you. • Think in systems and primitives — contracts, workflows, failure modes, observability — not just features. • Enjoy mentoring, growing, and unblocking other engineers, and demonstrate that you've been effective at it. • Be comfortable with the stack and demonstrate expertise on key parts of it. • Prefer a small, sharp, in-person team over a huge org with lots of pre-defined processes.

• Have experience with full-stack TypeScript, React, Postgres, and Temporal for long-running orchestration. • Bring familiarity with AWS, Terraform, and observability tools such as Sentry and Datadog. • Have experience with data tools such as Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, Amplitude, or Segment. • Have experience building agentic systems, AI-powered tooling, or working with messy real-world data. • Bring experience in regulated environments such as FCA-regulated products. • Have experience with open banking integrations or insurance product lines.

• Own 2–3 high-leverage bets per year, turning fuzzy problems into clear plans with defined metrics, constraints, and a concrete technical approach. • Ship small, end-to-end slices every 1–2 weeks so that real members feel the benefit often. • Be a domain owner in one or more critical areas such as front-end, workflows/Temporal, infrastructure, agentic-AI core, or data modelling. • Set and evolve the patterns and primitives others build on, keeping them simple, understandable, and teachable. • Spot recurring problems and create stable contracts, libraries, and workflows so others don't have to reinvent them. • Act as a multiplier for other engineers by mentoring emerging tech leads and seniors, embedding with teams when they're stuck, and giving reviews that catch issues and teach patterns. • Create written clarity around the work you lead with one canonical, skimmable doc people across Product, Ops, and Engineering can rely on. • Define and evolve the patterns other engineers rely on, changing how engineering works across Nous rather than just within one squad. • Grow other leaders, not just ship more yourself.
