Senior Legal Counsel, Digital Assets and Payments

• Join Monzo’s Legal and Board Governance Collective as Senior Legal Counsel for Digital Assets and Payments. • Advise the payments business on digital assets and emerging payment technologies. • Help teams navigate a fast-changing legal and regulatory landscape while protecting customers. • Act as a legal business partner to product, engineering, risk and operations teams. • Report to the Director of Legal for Payments & Business Banking. • Earn around £110,000 plus performance-linked incentives.

• Bring at least 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience as a lawyer. • Show recent experience with digital assets, emerging financial technologies and their regulation. • Advise on financial services law and regulation, including the UK regime for digital assets and payments. • Assess risk and recommend solutions that balance commercial and risk considerations. • Anticipate challenges and understand the commercial goals of the teams you support. • Take initiative to broaden your knowledge and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Bring experience with EU digital asset regulation such as MiCA. • Show in-house experience at a bank or fintech. • Bring experience advising on personal or business banking products. • Show experience managing external law firms and legal spend.

• Advise product managers on legal issues relating to digital assets and emerging financial technologies. • Help Monzo scale quickly while operating safely and within the law. • Train colleagues on how laws and regulations in your area affect Monzo and its customers. • Act as the sole lawyer on matters, spotting issues early and finding effective solutions. • Work with UK and EU colleagues to apply local legal requirements to products. • Advise Product, Risk & Compliance, Financial Crime, Fraud and Operations teams. • Find technology solutions that streamline legal workflows. • Manage external suppliers and law firms to optimise legal spend.
