💼 What you will do

• Join the second line of defence Model Oversight team, supporting colleagues across Borrowing, Fincrime & Fraud, Finance, and Operations to help Monzo grow safely. • Make sure the Financial Crime and Fraud models Monzo uses are good for the business and best for customers. • Perform independent validations using modelling techniques proportionate to each model’s complexity. • Monitor and measure the overall level of FinCrime and Fraud model risk Monzo carries, driving action plans to bring residual risk within appetite. • Support the wider Model Oversight team across Finance and Credit disciplines during peak demand. • Attend the Model Risk Oversight Committee regularly, contributing to how model risk gets managed. • Work from London, Cardiff, or distributed within the UK, with ad hoc meetings in London.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring experience developing or validating models in any of Financial Crime, Fraud, Credit, Interest Rate, Liquidity, Regulatory capital, Stress testing, or forecasting. • Bring in-depth knowledge of statistical techniques for risk management. • Have managed a modelling project through its full lifecycle. • Bring strong technical skills in SQL or Python. • Hold a working knowledge of machine learning models such as gradient boosted trees. • Stay highly motivated by bringing positive impact to customers and to Monzo. • Work self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced environment. • Pay great attention to detail while keeping an eye on the big picture. • Communicate well, articulating complex problems clearly. • Provide effective challenge while building strong, respectful relationships. • Stay keen to grow your knowledge across both business and technology.

• Understand customer risk assessment controls at the point of current account application. • Know transaction monitoring controls. • Bring familiarity with financial crime and fraud typologies. • Have worked in a transaction driven business or similar industry. • Use a preferred name to apply, as Monzo does not need full or birth names at application stage.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Build relationships with first line FinCrime and Fraud modelling teams and wider risk teams to embed the model risk framework and an understanding of validation practices. • Perform independent model validations of FinCrime and Fraud models. • Write clear model validation reports and present findings in relevant committees. • Review ongoing model performance monitoring so models stay within risk thresholds, supporting the development team when further action is needed. • Oversee the review and validation of model changes, recommending to first line teams what keeps models fit for purpose. • Collaborate with first line teams to strengthen policies, standards, and procedures, advising during model design and build. • Monitor overall FinCrime and Fraud model risk and drive mitigation plans through appropriate governance forums. • Make sure Model Owners keep the Model Inventory current, with enough information and evidence to support regulation and compliance reviews. • Support model validation activity across Finance and Credit disciplines during peak demand. • Research the latest modelling and validation techniques, including machine learning, to expand validation capability. • Promote a strong risk culture, sharing best practice in ways everyone can understand.
