About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Monzo's second line of defence Model Oversight team as a FinCrime Model Validation Manager, ensuring that Fincrime and Fraud models are good for both Monzo and its customers. • Perform independent model validations of FinCrime and Fraud models, write impactful validation reports, and present findings in relevant committees. • Build relationships across first line modelling teams and wider risk teams to support embedding of the model risk framework. • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK or from Monzo's London office, with flexible working hours.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have experience developing and/or validating Financial Crime, Fraud, Credit, Interest Rate, Liquidity, Regulatory capital, Stress testing, and/or forecasting models. • Have in-depth knowledge of statistical techniques for management of risks. • Have experience managing a modelling project through its full lifecycle. • Have strong technical skills such as SQL or Python. • Have working knowledge of machine learning models such as gradient boosted trees. • Be highly motivated and energised by bringing positive impact to customers and Monzo. • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail while keeping an eye on the big picture. • Be a great communicator able to articulate complex problems. • Provide effective challenge whilst building strong, respectful relationships.

• Have understanding of Customer Risk assessment controls at point of Current Account application. • Bring experience with Transaction Monitoring controls. • Have knowledge of Financial Crime and Fraud typologies. • Bring experience in a transaction-driven business or similar industry. • Have experience supporting the operation of Model Risk Oversight Committees or similar governance forums.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Build relationships with first line of defence Fincrime/Fraud modelling teams and wider risk teams to support embedding of the model risk framework. • Perform independent model validations of FinCrime/Fraud models using proportionate modelling techniques depending on the level of complexity. • Write clear and impactful model validation reports and present findings in relevant committees. • Review ongoing model performance monitoring to ensure FinCrime/Fraud models perform within risk thresholds, providing support to model development teams when further action is required. • Oversee the review and validation of any FinCrime/Fraud model changes and provide recommendations to first line teams. • Collaborate with first line of defence teams to support strengthening of policies, standards, and procedures, providing advisory support during model design and build. • Monitor and measure the overall level of FinCrime/Fraud model risk and drive action plans with first line teams to mitigate residual model risk within desired appetite. • Ensure FinCrime/Fraud Model Owners keep the Model Inventory up to date with sufficient information for regulation and compliance reviews. • Support the broader Model Oversight team with validation activity in other disciplines such as Finance and Credit to manage peak demand. • Research and learn latest modelling and validation techniques including machine learning to expand validation capability. • Promote and help embed a strong risk culture, making risk meaningful and relevant to everyone at Monzo.
