📋 Job Requirements
• Have a strong background and practical experience in credit model development and/or validation, particularly with machine learning or statistical models used in credit decisioning such as decision science scorecards, origination/underwriting PD models, and NPV/unit economics modelling.
• Be data-driven with strong analytical skills and deep understanding of statistical techniques for credit and model risk — strong SQL and Python skills are essential.
• Understand how models are used in real-time decisioning and lending strategies, and how to balance commercial and risk outcomes.
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate problems and solutions using clear and simple language, particularly breaking down complex issues for non-experts.
• Have a track record of building and maintaining trusting relationships with stakeholders at all levels, providing effective and respectful challenge.
• Be impact-driven and proactive in identifying issues and opportunities to improve outcomes for customers and the business.

🎯 Responsibilities
• Lead hands-on independent validation of models used for credit decisioning within Borrowing strategies, covering machine learning, decision science, and NPV models.
• Support oversight and validation of broader credit risk models including IFRS 9, stress testing, and economic response models.
• Develop deep understanding of Monzo's credit models and provide impactful input and challenge to model developers to improve modelling capabilities.
• Review ongoing model performance monitoring to ensure lending models perform within risk thresholds, providing support to first line of defence teams when action is required.
• Perform statistical analyses to independently assess model performance, including developing challenger models where appropriate.
• Improve the Model Risk Framework including overseeing policies, standards, and procedures to embed best practice and follow up-to-date regulatory guidelines.
• Write clear and impactful model validation reports and present findings and actions in relevant committees.
• Partner with first line of defence credit strategy and modelling teams and wider risk teams to embed the model risk framework and establish consistent validation standards.
• Embrace new and innovative technology, including leading the adoption of AI tools to enhance the model validation approach.
