Software Development Engineer II, Navigation Traffic

• Join Mapbox's Navigation Traffic team as a Software Development Engineer II, developing and maintaining the web services powering virtually all of Mapbox's strategic navigation initiatives in consumer, automotive, and logistics. • Balance the rapid development of new navigation solutions against the reliability of services as they scale into new request volumes, markets, and use cases. • Work on a highly multidisciplinary team spanning distributed systems on AWS, geospatial localisation, traffic telemetry, and mapping. • Work fully remote from anywhere in the UK.

• Have 5+ years of experience building scalable, high-volume, low-latency backend services. • Be proficient in the tech stack — Python, TypeScript (backend), AWS (CDK/ECS/Step Functions/Lambda/S3). • Be familiar with code versioning tools such as GitHub. • Engage, learn, and contribute quickly to initiatives. • Perform independently on all development tasks based on designs and specs. • Be a self-starter who is communication and outcomes-oriented. • Take an empirical analytical approach — develop strong hypotheses, conduct spikes, and clearly communicate findings. • Share expertise through documentation, mentorship, pairing, and written and verbal discussion. • Have a high-quality mindset — write unit tests, proactively remedy defects, and follow through to production.

• Have experience and knowledge within the navigation domain. • Bring experience with Amazon ElastiCache. • Have experience with SQL. • Bring experience with Big Data or ML. • Have experience with various security standards and associated technical knowledge.
