Software Development Engineer II, Navigation Traffic

• Build and maintain the web services powering virtually all of Mapbox's strategic navigation initiatives across consumer, automotive, and logistics. • Balance rapid development of new navigation solutions against the reliability of services as they scale into new request volumes, markets, and use cases. • Work across a highly multidisciplinary stack — distributed systems on AWS, geospatial localisation, traffic telemetry, and mapping. • In a single week, you might write application code, build and deploy microservices, diagnose complex system behaviour, or facilitate continuous delivery. • Fully remote role based in the UK.

• 5+ years of experience building scalable, high-volume, low-latency backend services. • Proficiency in Mapbox's tech stack — Python, TypeScript (backend), and AWS (CDK, ECS, Step Functions, Lambda, S3). • Familiarity with code versioning tools such as GitHub. • Self-starter with a communication and outcomes-oriented mindset. • Empirical analytical approach — develops strong hypotheses, conducts spikes, and communicates findings clearly. • High quality mindset — writes unit tests, proactively remedies defects, and follows through to production. • Thoughtful integration of AI into design, development, and decision-making workflows.

• Experience and knowledge within the navigation domain. • Experience with Amazon ElastiCache. • Experience with SQL. • Experience with big data or machine learning. • Familiarity with various security standards and associated technical knowledge.
