Software Development Engineer II, Data Platform

• Join the Data Platform team providing foundational infrastructure, products, and tools for data applications that 300+ Mapbox Engineers across Search, Navigation, and Maps teams build upon. • Work on batch and streaming ingestion systems that ingest terabytes of data per day, including an events pipeline collecting 100 billion GPS points daily. • Build internal data tools, pipelines, and platforms that grow the foundation of the Mapbox Platform, including "Loading Dock," an internal ETL tool processing petabytes per day. • Work fully remote from anywhere in the UK, mostly async with a distributed team across the US and Canada.

• Have 5+ years of industry experience. • Have experience designing, building, and maintaining internal tools and services on AWS. • Have experience with some or all of the tech stack: Node.js, Python, Spark, Airflow, and AWS including Lambda, EMR, ECS, and Kinesis. • Have experience with distributed systems at scale. • Have a track record of building self-service and high-quality tools for developers with a customer-driven mindset. • Share expertise through documentation, mentorship, and written and verbal discussion. • Demonstrate autonomy and proactivity around driving work to completion in the face of ambiguity.

• Have experience building and operating large-scale data ingestion pipelines processing terabytes or petabytes of data daily. • Bring experience with managed EMR solutions or similar cluster orchestration at scale. • Have experience with streaming data systems such as Kinesis or Kafka. • Bring experience with geospatial data processing or GPS telemetry. • Have experience thoughtfully integrating AI into engineering design, development, and decision-making workflows.

• Support internal Mapbox engineers by building data infrastructure and tooling that addresses their needs. • Work on batch and streaming ingestion systems that ingest terabytes of data per day. • Simplify and strengthen Mapbox's processes and tools for designing, deploying, and monitoring data processing and querying workloads on AWS. • Promote a culture of operational excellence by testing and monitoring systems and code, and being on-call to support the health of services. • Document work and decision-making processes, and lead presentations and discussions in a way that is easy for others to understand. • Uphold a culture of collaboration, transparency, creativity, inclusion, and data-driven decisions.
