Privacy Engineering Director

• Be the privacy engineering leader at DuckDuckGo, stepping in on the most complex, ambiguous, and high-stakes privacy challenges that arise across all products. • Own high-complexity privacy projects from definition to delivery, evolve privacy triage and review processes, build automation that reduces engineering toil, and grow the next generation of privacy engineers. • Lead critical privacy initiatives shaping the future of private browsing, private search, and agentic computing while contributing significantly to privacy strategy across the company.

• Bring 10+ years of experience leading privacy reviews, audits, or technical privacy programmes at a consumer-facing product company with a large (1M+) user base. • Have 4+ years of privacy engineering leadership experience building infrastructure tools, data minimisation systems, or equivalent privacy-preserving technical solutions. • Have Director, Head of, or VP-level experience with direct management and hiring responsibilities and meaningful technical scope. • Have proven ability to DRI high-complexity, cross-functional projects with minimal direction. • Have strong communication skills with a track record of translating privacy principles into practical engineering decisions across competing stakeholder needs. • Have experience improving organisational processes by identifying bottlenecks, implementing automation, and building scalable review systems. • Have a passion for privacy and raising the standard of trust online.

• Have experience building privacy engineering frameworks for agentic or AI-assisted product workflows. • Have experience designing technical solutions to enable private search index capabilities while preserving strict privacy guarantees at scale. • Have experience with data minimisation systems in the context of browser or search products. • Have experience growing and mentoring a team of privacy engineers.
