Experienced Software Engineer

• Care deeply about the quality and details of your work. • Find debugging any problem a fun challenge, not a chore. • Understand the layers of abstraction below and above your work as a natural part of how you operate. • Have production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms, and be comfortable becoming an expert in PHP and JavaScript. • Associate abstraction as much with cost as with value. • Have experience working at scale — whether on the backend and performance side, or via the complexity of interacting with a multi-million diverse user base. • Be open and able to travel 3–4 weeks per year to meet up with teammates in person.

• Already be proficient in PHP and JavaScript. • Have experience contributing to or working with open-source projects. • Bring experience with WordPress, WooCommerce, or similar CMS/eCommerce platforms. • Have worked with AI-powered product features or development workflows.

• Build and ship features across Automattic's product ecosystem including WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Gutenberg, Tumblr, and other products. • Write and review code in PHP and JavaScript, deploying many times daily through continuous integration. • Collaborate across teams and communication channels as part of a global, distributed workforce. • Work on AI-powered product developments and day-to-day development workflows. • Contribute to open-source projects and support the open web. • Help maintain product quality, performance, and stability at scale.
