Senior Software Engineer I - Pricing Core

• Join the Pricing Core team, which builds and maintains the main pricing platform every Wise team uses to price its products. • Keep that platform reliable, scalable, and extensible for the teams building on top of it. • Work on services that sit in most products’ critical paths, processing over 100 million requests a day within strict SLAs. • Shape the future of complex, high-throughput systems, designing efficient and performant solutions. • Sit within the Pricing Squad and work closely with teams inside and outside it. • Participate in on-call rotations for Tier 1 critical services. • Work from London on a hybrid basis.

• Bring a strong software engineering background with a track record of contributing significantly to large, impactful projects in a complex production domain. • Bring experience with Java or a similar OOP language. • Work as an expert in your technical discipline, designing for long-term iteration and scale. • Own the availability, reliability, and security of the systems you build, following engineering best practices. • Make sensible trade-offs between speed, scalability, and risk, optimising for a predictable, regular delivery cadence. • Work on ambiguous and complex problems. • Own the technical roadmap and deliverables of your project end to end. • Use data to define, prioritise, and measure the success of initiatives. • Communicate well, tailoring your style to the audience, and shape requirements with cross-functional teams. • Mentor and coach other engineers, sharing knowledge and seeking feedback regularly.

• Bring experience of pricing systems, payments, or finance domains. • Work with distributed SQL engines such as Trino. • Build software solutions, APIs, or platform tooling on top of big data pipelines and analytical engines. • Bring familiarity with configuration-heavy domains where business logic is shared between data and code. • Bring experience of event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka. • Know AWS cloud infrastructure well.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services written in Java using Spring Boot, deployed on AWS. • Build and maintain event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka for asynchronous processing of financial events across distributed services. • Contribute to and drive architectural decisions, holding a high bar on quality, reliability, and observability. • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and technical debt in existing systems. • Take part in on-call rotations, monitoring and responding to production incidents on Tier 1 critical services. • Conduct code reviews that keep quality, security, and engineering standards high.
