Senior Backend Engineer I - Account Insights

• Join a brand new Account Insights team built on a simple belief: when customers see their money clearly, they manage it smarter and move more of their financial life to Wise. • Turn millions of transactions into fast, trustworthy, genuinely useful insights that customers act on. • Work in an early-stage, growing team spanning backend, mobile, and web, with product and design partners alongside. • Sit with senior engineers who hold real ownership over what gets built and a direct hand in shaping the roadmap. • Take the role if you want influence and room to grow rather than a narrowly defined brief. • Work from London on a hybrid basis.

• Have owned large, impactful backend projects end-to-end, from technical design through to production. • Stay accountable for the reliability, availability, and security of what you build. • Bring deep backend fundamentals and strong proficiency in your primary language, with Wise working mainly in Java and Spring Boot. • Bring a solid grasp of distributed systems concepts including asynchronous communication and event streaming. • Write well-tested, high-quality code and design systems with a long-term view so they scale and iterate easily. • Actively improve what is around you rather than working only to the ticket. • Bring hands-on experience with at least one of Kafka, stream processing, or high-throughput low-latency services. • Mentor and coach other engineers, giving and receiving feedback openly.

• Bring experience of building customer-facing analytics or insights features. • Work comfortably across an early-stage team where the roadmap is still taking shape. • Contribute to wider engineering forums beyond your own squad. • Bring fintech, payments, or banking experience to the domain. • Help build a collaborative, inclusive team culture as the team grows.

• Own and build the system components behind customer-facing insights features that help people understand and control their spending. • Help shape the roadmap and deliver large projects end-to-end. • Drive incident response and own both short and long term mitigation steps. • Raise the bar across the team by writing high-quality tests and clear documentation. • Review code and mentor, onboard, and coach other engineers. • Contribute to engineering forums beyond your own squad.
