Senior Android Engineer - Design Systems

• Join the Design Systems team, which builds the foundations behind Wise.com and the Wise iOS and Android apps. • Explore, design, and author the foundations, building blocks, and tooling used by every Wise product and landing page. • Act as a brand guardian, making sure everything released reinforces the trust customers have built up in Wise over the years. • Look at problems from every angle, spanning UX, scalability, efficiency, consistency, performance, accessibility, motion, and documentation. • Sit within Mobile engineering, collaborating with 60+ other mobile engineers and influencing other parts of the app. • Raise both UX and code quality across all Wise customers, making sure what you build scales into a high quality global product. • Partner closely with Product Designers, Content Designers, Brand and Creative Designers, Web, iOS, and Android Engineers, Design Tooling Specialists, and Vulnerable Customers. • Work from London on a hybrid basis.

• Bring deep expertise building reusable UI components and tooling with Compose. • Integrate with theme architecture, managing design tokens for colours, spacing, and typography globally. • Build clean, intuitive, highly flexible APIs that other developers can integrate easily. • Bring experience of visual regression testing and optimising UI performance for zero dropped frames. • Build accessible interfaces with inclusive design in mind, using testing tools to improve usability. • Bring an appetite for delightful user experiences and high attention to detail. • Explore, discuss, evaluate, and communicate complex technical problems with curiosity, open-mindedness, clarity, and objectivity. • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional peers while solving problems independently and proactively. • Stay eager to learn and share knowledge, contributing to technical documentation and RFCs.

• Bring experience contributing to and growing design systems or pattern libraries. • Bring exposure to authoring tooling and automation. • Navigate Figma or similar design tools comfortably. • Apply even if you only have some of the listed skills, as Wise expects to support people in learning the rest. • Apply for just one Wise role, the one you are most excited about, as duplicate applications requiring the same assessment are automatically closed.

• Participate in or lead other engineers through the full lifecycle of a feature, from discovery and technical specification through authoring, testing, documenting, releasing, presenting, and maintaining it. • Troubleshoot and fix issues, supporting other product teams in resolving problems related to the design system. • Represent and champion Design Systems initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Collaborate with teams across the company to deliver impactful experiences to the design system’s internal and external consumers. • Support new Wise engineers as they ramp up on the design system, tooling, and best practices.
