Compliance Lead for MEA

• Act as the Compliance Director for the high-growth Middle East and Africa region. • Provide the strategic leadership needed to protect customers as Wise scales its products across diverse new jurisdictions. • Cover Israel, the UAE, and South Africa first, then shift focus to markets including Nigeria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. • Build the required second-line operational teams across the MEA region from the ground up. • Report to the Board of Directors on the health of financial crime and regulatory compliance across the region. • Act as the spokesperson for MEA, building trust with regulators and networking with local peers to find ways to expand Wise’s reach. • Work from London on a hybrid basis, three days in the office and two from home, on 9am to 6pm hours. • Travel to other operational hubs as the role requires.

• Bring a solid background and knowledge in regulatory frameworks, with a strong grasp of related financial crime and regulatory obligations. • Set the strategic course and inspire a team to work collaboratively in a high-autonomy setting. • Show a proven track record of standing up operational departments and executing strategic roadmaps across diverse regions. • Mentor senior regional Compliance Officers seamlessly. • Foster a workspace built on continuous feedback and knowledge exchange, where people are empowered to be authentic and challenge the status quo. • Communicate complex topics to senior management clearly and concisely, including overseeing board packs. • Negotiate well and bring together teams and people with diverse ways of thinking. • Work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment, handling multiple tasks and complex geopolitical nuances at once. • Speak fluent English.

• Bring demonstrable experience managing complex licensing entries and interacting with regulators in markets like the UAE, Israel, or South Africa, which is highly advantageous. • Speak Arabic, Turkish, or Hebrew fluently or to working proficiency, which is highly desirable for the Middle East focus. • Bring passion for expanding Wise into new markets such as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Egypt in a compliant, solutions-driven way. • Bring payments or fintech regulatory experience across emerging markets. • Enjoy horizon-scanning for regulatory change and translating it into practical guidance for product teams.

• Provide strategic leadership as Compliance Director across the MEA region. • Oversee the launch of full capabilities in licensed markets including Israel, the UAE, and South Africa. • Manage and support licensing requirements in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. • Lead the build of second-line operational teams across the region from scratch. • Oversee the localisation of compliance frameworks and report to the Board on regional compliance health. • Support regional Compliance Officers by establishing trust and communication with regulators. • Translate regional information into strategic insight and decide how to manage regional risks. • Communicate product changes across the company and help teams understand complex regional regulatory frameworks. • Horizon-scan for regulatory developments across the Middle East and Africa and share them with product teams. • Maintain regulatory licences and applications across the region to keep operations running smoothly.
