💼 What you will do

• Join Tripadvisor, the travel group behind Tripadvisor, Viator and TheFork, in a remote-first role with periodic office gatherings. • Work in Experiences Engineering, the team behind the world’s leading marketplace for travel experiences. • Build and maintain highly scalable distributed systems used by millions of travellers. • Take on a full-stack role using Java, SQL, React, AWS and AI tools. • Own features end to end and act as technical lead on multi-quarter initiatives. • Live within a commutable distance (roughly 1.5 hours) of the London or Oxford hub.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring 5+ years of experience following a bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science or a related field. • Show a deep understanding of concurrent programming and high-performance, scalable cloud backends. • Bring strong experience in a modern backend language such as Java, C#, Go or Python. • Show familiarity with modern front-end frameworks. • Code fluently with AI tools such as Cursor, Codex, Claude or Open Code. • Validate technical decisions with operational data or experiment results. • Make rational trade-offs between non-functional requirements and delivery speed. • Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical partners. • Stay open to working within the Java ecosystem when you join. • Live within about 1.5 hours of the London or Oxford office hub.

• Bring experience with NoSQL databases. • Show experience with GraphQL. • Bring experience with Kafka. • Show experience with containerisation using Docker or Kubernetes. • Bring experience building tools or abstractions that give leverage to a whole engineering team.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Own features end to end, balancing security, privacy and performance. • Turn high-level business goals into clear technical specifications with Product and Data partners. • Act as technical lead on multi-quarter initiatives. • Set the bar for code quality and lead the adoption of review standards. • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers. • Use AI tools to plan approaches, break down ambiguous work and set standards for monitoring and reliability. • Design fault-tolerant architectures and identify structural risks proactively. • Set team-wide standards for automation, monitoring and long-term stability. • Simplify, consolidate or retire legacy code to reduce complexity and increase velocity.
