About the role

💼 What you will do

• Support and enable internal business units through shared engineering services and functionalities, building the tools and processes those teams need to succeed. • Build relationships with stakeholders across the organisation to understand and meet their needs through projects you own end to end. • Work directly with internal customer-facing teams to make their day-to-day lives easier, and with product engineering to extract the data that drives business decisions. • Take on work spanning observability, continuous deployment, infrastructure as code, cross-functional infrastructure improvements, and automated upgrades for managed services and VMs. • Work remotely from anywhere in the United Kingdom at an early-stage, fully distributed company.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have experience with CI/CD, secrets management, infrastructure as code, and observability. • Have experience with distributed systems. • Have operated managed services in a cloud environment. • Be familiar with networks, including IP addressing and routing. • Give and process constructive feedback, and work independently. • Stay flexible enough to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup. • Communicate excellently in writing and in person, working comfortably in an async, fully remote team.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have operated Kubernetes in production. • Have worked specifically with AWS. • Have experience with Go, which most non-frontend parts of the system are written in. • Have participated in incident response and handled customer support escalations.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team of engineers to design, build, test, and document core software components. • Exhibit ownership over the running services that make up Tailscale's product by building for observability, taking part in incident response, and fielding customer support escalations. • Analyse and improve the efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources. • Improve observability through metrics, alerting, logging, and telemetry integration. • Identify and build improvements for continuous deployment. • Use infrastructure as code to make changes in a cloud environment. • Collaborate with other engineering teams on cross-functional infrastructure improvements. • Automate upgrades for managed services and VMs.
