About the role

💼 What you will do

• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, R&D, Business Operations, and Go-To-Market teams to bring innovative AI products to market responsibly. • Report to the Head of Product & Privacy Legal and play a key role in navigating complex legal and regulatory issues. • Balance risk against business objectives and help the company scale with confidence. • Operate independently, giving pragmatic, business-oriented advice that aligns with Synthesia's risk appetite and goals. • Work remotely from the UK or US, or from the London or New York office.

📋 Job Requirements

• Hold a law degree and be qualified to practise in-house in a relevant jurisdiction. • Have 7+ years of post-qualification experience, including 5+ advising on SaaS product legal issues. • Understand AI and ML technologies strongly, along with related legal issues such as IP, privacy, and algorithmic accountability. • Understand GDPR and other major privacy frameworks strongly. • Work comfortably with technical teams, translating legal risk into actionable guidance. • Communicate excellently in writing, drafting clear, concise messages for cross-functional audiences. • Manage competing priorities and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have prior exposure to generative AI. • Have experience with biometric data processing or automated decision-making. • Have built privacy, security, or AI governance frameworks from scratch. • Have advised on open source licensing in a product context.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Partner with Product, Engineering, and R&D teams across the entire product lifecycle to identify and address legal risks across AI, IP, privacy, security, open source, and marketing. • Support commercialisation by advising Go-To-Market and Business Operations teams on product positioning, licensing models, and regulatory issues. • Monitor and interpret evolving laws on AI, privacy, IP, and competition to keep compliance proactive and aligned with the business. • Draft and maintain scalable processes, playbooks, and guidance that give teams consistent legal input. • Help create and manage privacy, security, and AI governance frameworks and audits. • Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice independently across the organisation.
