• Scale a pipeline currently handling tens of billions of events a month, with the goal of adding another zero to that number soon.
• Design elegant, efficient systems that handle terabytes of data without giving anyone insomnia.
• Own the service end to end, with no committees or overzealous PMs deciding the pipeline’s destiny.
• Build open-source software and show your Rust-fu to friends, family, and security researchers.
• Work in the hot path, where your code decides whether customers and engineers have a good time.
• Start from first principles rather than reaching for cookie-cutter solutions.
• See immediate results through small, confident, frequent steps forward.
• Work fully remote from the UK or EMEA within GMT to GMT+2, joining a team spread across North America and Europe.

🎯 Responsibilities
• Scale PersonHog to own person property updates end to end, shipping the person property update service for all person property writes.
• Ship PersonHog Writer to flush the WAL Kafka backlog to Postgres.
• Ship the distinct ID reconciliation service to own distinct ID to person mapping, merges, and splits.
• Build operational tooling for etcd management, write validation, and cache and data validation.
• Harden the persons Postgres database by eliminating schema drift across prod US, prod EU, and dev.
• Upgrade Postgres to unlock the higher Aurora storage limit, migrate integer ID columns nearing their limit to bigint, and partition the person distinct ID table.
• Speed up CI/CD by breaking ingestion into separate services and isolating ingestion code within the Node.js world.
• Add granular ingestion tests, expand the e2e testing structure, scope deployments to changed code, and add canary deployments gated by acceptance tests.
• Add redundancy and fallback to capture using WarpStream as an MSK fallback, plus a circuit breaker and a replay process that preserves ordering guarantees.
• Run failover drills and write the runbooks that go with them.
• Help users self-troubleshoot by shipping an ingestion MCP, an end-to-end event ingestion tracker, better ingestion warnings, and skills that let customers resolve common issues themselves.
We have used PostHog's web analytics ourselves and genuinely loved the experience. The product is fast, thoughtfully designed, and surprisingly fun to use. PostHog is unlike most SaaS companies: their entire handbook is public, their codebase is open source, and they share revenue figures and board meeting notes with every team member. The company has raised $194M from investors, including Stripe, GV, and Y Combinator, reached a $1.4 billion valuation in 2025, and is targeting $100M in ARR by the end of 2026. They pay generously, benchmarking engineering salaries at the 90th percentile of San Francisco rates adjusted by location, with a fully public compensation calculator so you know your salary before you even apply. Employees on Glassdoor consistently highlight the flexible spending, genuine remote-first culture, and regular offsites, alongside a $1,500 quarterly budget for meeting up with colleagues anywhere in the world. Many team members are former founders, and the company is structured around small, autonomous teams that own their products end-to-end. If you are an engineer or builder who thrives on autonomy, ships fast, and wants to work on a product used by nearly 200,000 teams, PostHog is a rare opportunity.
