About the role

💼 What you will do

• Join Monzo's expanding Prudential Risk team as a Treasury Risk Manager within the 2nd Line Treasury Risk Oversight team. • Partner with Treasury Markets as they oversee a £9.5 billion portfolio set to scale and diversify across various securities and financial instruments. • Provide robust monitoring and challenge regarding new investment initiatives and current portfolio performance, conducting independent credit reviews, resilience testing, and collateral oversight. • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK or from Monzo's London or Cardiff offices, with flexible working hours.

📋 Job Requirements

• Have relevant experience gained within a bank, a consultancy, a credit rating agency, or a regulatory body. • Have a solid understanding of key asset classes in a retail bank's treasury investment portfolio such as Sovereign and Supranational debt, Covered Bonds, ABS, and CLOs. • Understand securitisations including their structural features, underwriting processes, standards, and how to stress test them. • Critically evaluate risk data, with familiarity handling investment prospectuses and the ability to review credit rating agency reports to identify, understand, and challenge key risks. • Possess knowledge of key market products used across FX markets, repos, and interest rate derivatives. • Bring hands-on system and technical experience which may include Bloomberg for pricing, liquidity, and credit analysis, exposure to a Trade Management System, and working use of Python/SQL with ability to develop reporting dashboards. • Be a good relationship builder who can develop productive working connections with 1LoD stakeholders while maintaining the ability to provide robust, informed challenge. • Understand prudential regulatory requirements with a specific focus on liquidity and capital and how they impact a bank's investment portfolio.

• Have hands-on experience using Bloomberg Professional for credit and market analysis. • Bring experience writing independent credit assessments for counterparties and securitisations. • Have experience representing second line of defence in investor roadshows. • Bring experience contributing to wholesale credit risk forums or ALCO packs. • Have understanding of Treasury ALM and its strategic links to Treasury Markets activities.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Oversee Monzo's growing Treasury investment portfolio and analyse wholesale credit risk via regular monitoring of market and liquidity risks alongside collateral performance monitoring. • Write independent credit assessments for proposed counterparties and securitisations. • Conduct independent stress testing of ABS and CLO structures to evaluate portfolio resilience. • Represent 2LoD in investor roadshows to better understand collateral, structuring, and inherent risks of securities. • Monitor market trends and themes in wholesale credit markets and the wider macroeconomic environment, raising emerging risks to the Treasury Markets team. • Act as a key contributor to the Wholesale Credit Risk Forum, presenting a 2LoD view of the investment portfolio's risk profile. • Review monthly information submitted to ALCO packs and actively contribute 2LoD opinions on specific approval topics. • Play a core role in the 2LoD oversight of new proposals put forward by Treasury Markets within a rapidly growing environment. • Ensure appropriate controls exist and are consistently monitored across all Treasury Dealing activities. • Develop an understanding of Treasury ALM to understand its strategic links to Treasury Markets activities while providing support to ALM risk oversight.
